Hi everyone. I’m in the process of applying to
colleges and am looking for schools that are good in communications (specifically advertising) and/or marketing. I have a 3.7 gpa and 26 act. If you could suggest schools that might be of interest to be I would appreciate it. I would prefer the school be in the Midwest but if not that’s ok too. My 2nd question is should I major in marketing and minor in advertising or the other way around? I enjoy being creative (more advertising) than marketing but it seems like it would make more sense to major in marketing since advertising is a specific part of the marketing strategy? Any thoughts? Also, does marketing involve a lot of math… Because I hate math
Advice, suggestions, comments, anything, would be much appreciated!
Hi there! SO my school option for you isn’t in the Mid-West, but I think it’s definitely worth the distance. I am a sophomore at a small liberal arts school in Poughkeepsie, NY called Marist College. With you GPA and ACT, I think you would be a great fit here (though we are test optional). I am a double major here, with one of my majors being Communications with a concentration in Advertising, and I absolutely love it. I am very similar to you- I am definitely more creative and absolutely hate math. Those are the reasons why I decided to go with Advertising and not Marketing, so it seems like this would be a better option for you too. However, here at Marist, you’re given opportunities to explore everything you’re interested in. It’s easy to have a major and a minor, a major with two minors, or a double major such as myself. So, if you think you’d like to try marketing as well, that’s a possibility here! I highly recommend looking more into Marist. We seem to be very similar, and deciding to come here was the best choice I’ve ever made.
Thanks for the suggestion and advice! I have actually heard of Marist before you mentioned it and now I will definitely look into it more. I do have some questions… How would you describe the overall attitude/personality of the student body? And I’ve read that Marist is right by the Hudson River… What ilene does the surrounding area have to offer? Thanks!!
