I am an international student who is applying to Maryland University and I didn't realize I had to send a Financial Certificate in order to apply for F-1 Visa and if I send it by mail today, it arrive on time. So instead, of ticking the box "Do you intend to apply for an F1 or J1 visa?" i select: "I do not intend to apply for an F1 or J1 visa". This way, I wouldn't have to send my financial certificate and my application would be submitted within the deadline.

However, I do intend to apply for an F1 Visa if I get accepted so what I wanted to know is if I will be able to apply for it although I said I wouldn't do it in the application. As far as I'm concerned, the Visa is something I have to worry about and they should give me the I-20 form so I can apply for the visa by myself. Am I right?

In other words, by saying "I won't apply for the F1 Visa", will it be possible to do it in the future? By going to the embassy or whatever?

Check the box that says you intend to apply for the F-1 visa. Send your financial information by the fastest service possible (use FexEx or DHL if it is quicker than the postal service) and email the admissions office with the tracking number for your package.

The people who won’t apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa are people who already are in the US with another visa that permits them to study here (E, G, H, etc.).

The university needs proof of your financial resources before they are legally allowed to give you an I-20, and you need the I-20 before you can apply for a visa.

I agree with happymomof1: check the “I intend to apply for an F-1 visa” box and submit the Certification of Finances as soon as possible. (It’s usually not a problem if some parts of your application arrive a bit after the deadline; but it is a problem if your application remains incomplete.)
