so i got into UMCP, Rutgers, Purdue and UVa, however, i'm not really sure where to go..i'm doing FYE. Rutgers offered me full scholarship, however, money isn't a that bigof an issue...where do u guys think will be a better place to go?
Thanks :)

uva hands down.

that's what other people told me too...but according to USNEWS rankings, UVa engineering is behind Purdue and UMCP...?
i know rankings isn't everything though...

Born, raised in NJ, and Rutgers was my stomping ground, married a Terp and lived in VA. All of them are equal for oppotunities, however, you need to decide what CAMPUS you will be the happiest at!....DS just matriculated today to UMD!

thanks, but because i'man american international, i only visited the UVa campus cause my bro's there and he was taking a summer course. The UVa campus is beautiful. However, i have no idea what the other campuses arelike. The only thing i know, from what i've heard, is the the UMCP campus is HUGE...

It is huge, you cannot compare it to Rutgers though. Rutgers is spread out from NB to Piscataway (we alway took out the c and replaced it with th :)) UMCP is one very large campus, there aren't subsets like Cook,, or Douglas. As large as the campus is, you can still walk from the Stamp Union to Easton, it is just about getting your bearings straight...I don't know anyone who walked from Douglas to Piscataway!

UVA definetly

if money is not an issue...defintely UVA...its really pretty there..and academically its definitely better than md...and probably even athletically too

UVA...not even a question!!!!!!! :o not to be rude, but why do you even have a question? the schools other than UVA are not in the same league!

i heard mixed emotions about my options and my careers counselor has no idea about any of the universities..so i just wanted to make sure the decision i took was the right one :) ...thank you guys...

Your careers counselor should be looking for a new job if they can't figure it out. UVA is a dream school for a lot of people. My D goes to Rutgers so no bias here.

UVA is a dream school for many people, it is as close to an ivy that any state university can be, that being said. The engineering dept at UMD is highly respected, in the end it will really have to come down to you. The campus life and curriculum will dictate whether you will be happy there. You can't spend all of your waking moments for the next 4 yrs hating the place...i.e hate the campus and courses. We can all vote on it, but we really don't knowyou. You might be very close to your brother and being at UVA could ease the transition, the opposite could be true, and freedom from him checking on you might be a better fit

but is UVa Engineering respected as highly as the university is in general?...i kniw this might sound like a really stupid question :)
..and yeah my careers counselor knows nothing! he's actually an english teacher that needs the money and thus calls himself a careers counselor to get the extra $$ :) ..
thanks for the input guys!

uva engineering is just as good as md's...uva engineering program has a good recruiting program...i kno a lot of engineers who graduated from uva and they got amazing jobs right out of college

Turning down a full ride would be a very stupid decision that you'll regret later on especially since Rutgers' engineering is not much worse if at all than UVA's.

I had a brother that went to UMCP and another that went to UVA before transferring to VT. They argue all the time which one was better, but in the end, the one that went to UMCP has had a lot more opportunities here in the DC area. PS: VT crushes UVA’s engineering.

Rutgers Rutgers Rutgers. Free college. UMCP is overrated, people only like the name. UVA you probably wont have fun but if you want a guaranteed job making a lot of money go there. Purdue I dont know much about.

Based on major…

Engineering or Agriculture: Purdue
Government: UMCP
Pharmacy or any biology not agriculture: Rutgers
Anything else: UVA
Not wanting debt/wanting to pay for grad school: Rutgers. But since you said “money isn’t an issue” I really am not helping the decision…

Yeah, UVA sucks for engineering.

UVA is a greattttt school
