HI, my dd got into MMC, but not the BA or BFA for acting, which means she’d be doing the Performance and Digital Media major. She can take some acting classes, but many are reserved for the Theatre Performance BA/BFAs. But it seems like she may end up being more marketable since there are communication course requirements. At Hofstra, she can pursue her BA in theater since it is a non-audition program. Can anyone speak to prestige, connections, job placement, quality of education, course availability (not getting shut out of classes) and overall experience? Thanks!
MMC has great connections but she won’t be able to audition for shows if she’s not in the BA Theatre Performance or BFA majors. Hofstra has an excellent acting program but she won’t get the NY experience. It really depends on what she wants her experience to be. She can re-audition at MMC for the program she wants during freshman year or audition for the BFA at Hofstra after the first year. As far as alumni in the field it seems MMC has more but I think Hofstra concentrates more on classical acting which is great if that is what she wants. You should go to their accepted students days and see what “feels right” to her.
