Marymount Manhatten College

Yes, we need to have an official CC award for this!

It was so much fun to meet LynnM at MMC! She introduced herself when she heard me talking about being from New Orleans. She is a lovely lady and it was great to meet her. We sat with a Mom from Florida and one from NJ that had never heard of the message board!! I hope they will join in the discussion here because both have great information to share about their experiences with their D's this year. All D's of all Mom's mentioned were adorable and fun and I enjoyed talking with them as well. I am so glad to hear the recognition for Mary Anna. Obviously I am indebted to her for many reasons, but beyond that she is such an incredible resource we simply could not have done this process without her and she has guided my d's success far beyond what it would have been if we had not met her. There is a dressing room door with her name on it in heaven!!

How long does it take for MMC to do acceptance letters academics and BFA/BA audtions?

Is anyone going to Marymount Manhattan next year? I just found out I got into the production/management program for theatre so I am definitely going. Im so excited! Everyone post if their going and what their going for.

clairsellers - Congratulations! My D auditioned in February for MT/Drama, but hasn't heard as of yet. I thought they said their letters go out around the 15th of March?? I'm not sure though.

Im a little confused on their acceptance timeline too. I auditioned for acting and musical theatre in November, but then I went back in February and interviewed for the production management major. Anyway, they said that I would hear by March 1st and when my letter didnt come by March 4, I called to see if there was a problem. They called and told me the news! Maybe you could call, they are always really nice at the college.

I'm going next year for a BA in theatre arts & the musical theatre minor!

im going for ba theatre arts production and management! im so excited but im really nervous! do you know anyone that goes there?

Anyone else get into the BA in Directing?

I actually do have three friends from my high school that go there! two of them will be seniors next year, both with BAs, one with directing & the other with like technical theatre stuff i think? & another friend who will be a sophomore next year with a BFA in acting. i've only heard good things & none of them regret their decisions at all!

Hey i am going to attend Marymount next year for theatre and the musical theatre minor. if you are attending as well im me at grapesarefun06!

Can anyone who attends Marymount speak about the level of difficulty or work involved with academic clases? My daughter is reluctant to attend here because of academic classes........feels she won't be able to take outside voice or dance training. Any input appreciated.

^^very good question. I personally have that exact same concern. Someone, please reply.

Academic class can be a mixed bag. I took an Enlglish class last year that was ridiculously easy and the professor didn't seem to know what she was doing. I also took a biology class which was very interesting, and very challenging. It really depends on the professor.

As far as outside voice and dance classes, I'm pretty sure you can opt out of Marymount's dance program at New Dance Group to take dance somewhere else (I have a few friends that take classes at Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway). Voice lessons you're required to take with one of Marymount's teachers.

I have a couple of questions and i can't seem to find any definite answers: First, when is the deadline for applications for fall 2007? And do you audition after you get accepted or before? I believe that i have a scheduled audition for March 4, but that seems sort of late to turn in applications. If anyone can make sense of this i would truly appreciate it!

I have researched their site for you. In general, Marymount Manhattan has Rolling Admissions.

For theater applicants, the application must be in at least three weeks prior to your audition date. They have to have YOUR part of the application in hand by that point. However, the transcripts, recs, scores, etc. just need to be in by March 15 if you wish to be considered for Talent Scholarships. I suppose you could get it in later than that if not going for scholarships, but by then, surely you should have filed everything anyway.

Hope this helps.

I don't really understand rolling admission. Is it: no matter when you apply, you can still attend the fall semester? And if so, when do they make final decisions?

The general definition (for any college) of Rolling Admissions is:
Applications are evaluated as they arrive and applicants receive admissions decisions shortly thereafter, usually within two months.

Yes, with Rolling Admissions, you are being accepted for the following fall semester. In general, schools that do not use Rolling Admissions, have a deadline by which all apps must be filed and often have a reply date that is the same for everyone. With Rolling Admissions, applicants find out on a rolling basis depending on when they filed their application. But in both instances, it still pertains to fall enrollment.

With Marymount Manhattan, as I researched for you in the previous post, you have to get your app in at least three weeks prior to your audition date. In other words, there is not one solid application deadline but it relates to when your audition appointment will take place. You'd have to find out if they notify of acceptances on a Rolling basis, or if they wait until all auditions are complete before informing all applicants of the result. I am not sure their notification process and encourage you to call directly to inquire. However, I recall last year, a client who was accepted in April and I think everyone may have heard then. His audition had been in the winter, maybe in February, but I'd have to look it up. So, it may be that at MM, the applications come in on a rolling basis in relation to audition dates, but they may not let everyone who applies to an audition based degree program know the results until spring. Other schools, and particularly non audition schools, that have Rolling Admissions, notify applicants of results all year in relation to time of year (during senior year) that the applicant got their application in by. But they all enroll in the fall regardless.

Mackie45 - Rolling admissions means that the school/university lets you know if you've been accepted after they review your paperwork. They don't send acceptances/rejections at one specific time, such as April 1st. At Marymount, they'll let you know if you've been accepted ACADEMICALLY once they review all your paperwork (often hear within a month or so). You will not know if you've been accepted into the Theatre Arts Major until after your audition and, I believe, all the audition dates are over (I believe that was sometime in the end of March, beginning of April).
Susan, I didn't see your post, when I posted mine.

Lynn and I replied at the same time :)

Thanks, Lynn. MM then will give out admissions results on a Rolling basis academically depending on when you have submitted the application (which is what rolling admissions is about) but reserves notification of acceptance into audition based programs themselves until all auditions are complete.

There you go from a parent who has been through it at that school!

PS, most of the schools my child applied to, did not have a two pronged admissions process. She was notified about acceptance into the college and into the BFA program all in one shot.
