People who are getting packets are the people who already got their letter of acceptance.

By the "others" i guess you are referring to those who did not get in?

They'd get a letter..

I think it may be the people who got their letter of appointment AND have already accepted the appointment. I would think that if you have not accepted it yet you may not be getting this yet. Though, that is mere supposition on my part.

Well that goes without saying. Ya you have to accept the offer first. ;]

When you recieve your appointment, you will get a gray package in the mail with blue writing that says "Offer of Appointment Enclosed", which contains information about Basic, a letter from some guy (sorry, I don't mean that to sound disrespectful because I'm sure he's pretty important, but I don't remember his name or title), and a form that you and a parent (unless you're 18) must sign either in rejection or acceptance of the appointment. If you accept the appointment, you also specify whether you will be flying or driving to the Academy for inprocessing. If you are planning to fly in, they will send you the ticket, so you let them know which airport you want to leave from. After you accept the appointment, a second package will come, which is the candidate kit everyone is referring to. I'm still waiting for mine, so I don't know what all it contains. Hopefully it comes today! :)

And if the Academy doesn't end up wanting you, I believe that they send you a letter, but then you go into a pool of candidates that the Academy can draw from if they need to fill up slots last-minute. So don't give up hope. Hang in there!

About the candiate kit - D got hers yesterday. Unlike others who posted that they got it by FedEx, hers did NOT come FedEx. It came regular mail sitting our regular mailbox.

Redhead - we are in CA and you're in OR - maybe our area had them sent regular mail and yours will be there today?!

Sooo, let me get this straight. There was first an acceptance letter, but since we didn't get one of those yet, we must be in the reject, I mean 'other' pool. When did people get their acceptance letters?

Thanks for helping me!

People get them at all different times.

I knew i was in the Prep school in January.

The 'other' pool is not necessarily rejected, though. And as far as what the packet contains its a ton of forms from life insurance to the bed and breakfast program and some information on in processing and the academy itself.

Or, you could be like me, and have gotten a call from your MOC with an offer of acceptance, but not have gotten your OoA letter yet. I'm hoping it'll come tomorrow, so that I can send it out and get my candidate kit soon.

Runnin Rat: I heard about a guy from my ALO who didn't get his acceptance until the day he graduated from highschool (mid-June), but he still got all his acceptance stuff just in time, and he got it back to USAFA before it was too late. So, don't give up 'till June 28th!

Still no appointment kit here in Ga. Hopefully it will come tomorrow....

I am in the same boat you are in Falcons '11. I received a call from my senator a week and a half ago telling me I got in but still have not received my acceptance letter. I really hope I get my letter in the next few days.

It could just be my area though, I am in Chicago and I am pretty sure not many from my area have received a letter either.

How quickly did your online app update to "appointment offered"? I got a call from my congressman a week ago telling me I will be receiving an appointment and still no online update and nothing in the mail. Any idea when I could expect some tangible evidence of my appointment?

Ohh....I just read your post AFA2011. It looks like we are in the same boat. I know I got in, but I am really paranoid that something happened b/c I haven't heard anything yet.

Hang in there, it's coming.

Yeah my online status still hasn't changed either savolleyball25. I talked to my Congressman the other day and he told me I should expect something in the next week or two so hopefully we should both find something out soon.

Should we have contacted our congressman already if applying for SS, or is that done the beginning on senior year?

I contacted mine in the summer going into my senior year.

Thanks.........

Well, at least I'm not the only one who is in this awkward position of being accepted but not having written proof yet. AFA2011 and savolleyball25, hopefully we will all get our letters around the same time. We're still gonna get it though, so hang in there!

Falcons '11, AFA2011, and savolleyball25:
Our son's experience was very similar to yours. Our MOC called to tell him he was in and that AFA would be sending out the letter the following week. However, it took two weeks for the letter to arrive and we live in NM -- just a bit south of the Springs. So hang in there. If you've been notified by your MOC then it's just a matter of time 'til the paperwork gets to you. Best wishes!
