Master degree in England!

Hi, I'm a college student and I want to have my master degree in Britain. I'd like to ask if there's anything that I should notice? Or applying to English college will need any condition?(licence or certificate maybe?)
And which british university do you suggest me to apply to if I want to major in English Literature?
PS. how's the weather in England and what's fun there?
Thanks = )

If you are academically strong you should apply for a Rhodes, Fulbright, or Marshall scholarship. There are others out there, too, that will pay for you to study in England for a year (most Master’s degrees only take a year in the UK). I won a Marshall scholarship and used it to get my MPhil in Comparative Politics at Cambridge. It was a good experience, and I encourage people to explore it. I’ve heard that Oxford has a strong lit program than Cambridge, though.

As for the weather: it rains…A LOT. It can be pretty depressing some times.

the weather in england is cold and rainy, 350 days a year. i lived there for two and a half years; i hated the first few months, but you get used to it (invest in some good wellies and a warm coat)

(To beccabee)Yeah this suggestion is quite useful  I should save some money for caot instead of burberry…LOL hey thanks for the reminder =]

(to agc0319) Thanks for the reply =] I’ll try to apply for the scholarship, I know that life in England is expensive…sigh Hey but I don’t think I’m that good enough to apply for Oxford and Cambridge…but I’ll try my best:) thanks again~!!

Hey Ana,

I am UKdude, and the source of all British information. :D

There are many solid schools outside of Oxbridge, many make the THES world university rankings. For English Lit, it’s not my subject, but UCL is good for English, as is Kings.

If you want a smaller town vibe, Brookes has a solid English dept as does Reading.

Drop me a line.

Hey UKdude,
Thanks for the reply, I don’t know much about THES…could you explain it to me? BTW what’s the different between small town and big city? honestly, I don’t think I know anything about britain :frowning: tell me more about it, and tell me what’s fun there  Thanks again

What’s fun in england !!!

Well depends on what you like, but as a tourist I can suggest you to go and take alook around London. The buildings awes my foreign chinese friends, maybe you can give it a try.

Hey Britishhh, I jnow that London Eye is fun;) have you ever been there? what’s british like? are they easy to det along with? and about culture shock, what would you do to a foreigner?

Hey,

Big cities are noisy, dirty and crowded. Most often, universities are not based on a site, but spread out with a library here and theatre there.

Small cities are usually home to campus unis, quieter, less crowded, more green spaces. I prefer to study in such an environment.

THES is The Times Higher Education Supplement, the educational pull out of a major British broadsheet. It offers university rankings.

You can do anything you want in the UK for fun, literally whatever your heart desires.

Where are you from? What would you like to do?

I can help you locate the ideal UK school.
