My cousin is graduating next year with a major in econ and a minor in math. But now she wants to go into accounting but she can't change her major. Can she get a masters in accounting? Is that the same thing as a MBA. Does she need work experience for that?

Yes, you can get a master's degree in accounting. In general, that is not the same thing as getting an MBA (although there is such a thing as getting an MBA with a major/specialty in accounting).

For example, the University of Virginia offers a master's degree in accounting, in the UVa McIntire School of Commerce. UVa also offers a highly respected MBA through the Darden School which is completely different from the master's degree in accounting.

You don't need work experience to get in, although having relevant work experience would obviously help you to get admitted.

Does Stern offer this?

I'm afraid not. Stern only offers undergraduate degrees, MBA's, and PhD's, but no master's degree in accounting. You can get an MBA from Stern in which you take lots of accounting coursework, but that means you obviously have to get admitted into the MBA program, and since Stern is a top MBA program, work experience is important to get admitted.

Stern doesn't have master's in accounting, but other top schools that do are UVa, Umich, UIUC, and UT-Austin. You should check out those programs

USC Leventhal, there is school you should check out. especially if your cousin is interested in working in socal.
