Master List of Merit Scholarships

We were told they did not re-award a scholarship that was turned down. It goes back into the kitty for the next year (of course, they may have changed their policy as this was two years ago).

That’s good MTnest because my son just received 12K a year which he will not be using, but I do not plan on letting them know until May 1. He applied based on posts on this board with the possibility of maybe getting free tuition, but since that’s not the case, I cant justify spending that much for a state school.
At least we tried.

Yeah, the School of Medicine Guarantee app is completely separate from the scholarship letter.

should I be freaking out if I haven’t gotten an invitation to apply for the Med-School Guarantee? I indicated the right majors in my app…

@jgirl0828: Congratulations! What major did you apply for at UPitt?

I was accepted to pitt on 11/13 but i still havent heard anything yet about scholarships.
should I be worried or is there a chance that they just haven’t sent it yet?
I got a 2290 on the SAT and have a 3.85 GPA with a very challenging schedule, so I feel i have the stats for the scholarship. I do live instate though, so would that effect anything?

Scholarship info usually takes more than one week to get to you… I’d say keep waiting. You sound like you’re definitely in the running for a scholarship.

its been a month and a week though and thats why im worried

@pat292 - Email OAFA and ask them. That’s what we did. If nothing else it shows you are interested.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.

oops I read 11/13 as 12/13, sorry. >_<

Would scholarship money from an individual school, like engineering, come with other scholarship money or separately?

For some it came separately (i.e. $2,000 engineering award followed by full tuition from OAFA) but for others it came together.

Different envelopes, different sources (swanson vs. oafa), same day.

rdmnrsox,

I would say you have a chance ay maybe 10K but not guaranteed. My son just received the 12K with 1490/2210 (applied early Nov), whereas people who applied earlier with similar stats seemed to get full tuition. Now it seems as if you need near perfect SATs for full tuition. Note the full cost of Pitts tuition, room and board is about 36K OOS so it is still pricey. If money is a consideration, I would look into the Nj State schools.

On NJ state schools and merit money… Rutgers-NB I think gives 10k to in-state students with 1450 (M+CR) and top 5% of their class…, the cutoff is 1500/top 5% or 1550/top 10% for a full ride at Rutgers. Rutgers-Newark will throw in more money on top of that to lure kids away from the NB campus. TCNJ’s not that great with merit aid, apparently the most they will give to anyone in merit money is like $6k/yr which doesn’t even cover IS tuition.

Still, getting $10k IS from Rutgers will cover tuition and part of R&B which is about what full tuition would cover OOS for Pitt. I like Pitt much better than Rutgers though :D.

rdmnrsox: Can’t hurt to apply, but you should hurry. Priority date for scholarships is 1/15. Your stats look good. My son got full tuition scholarship with:
SAT 2230 (M770, R760, W700)
ACT 34
GPA 4.0 uw, 4.167 w
AP - Calc AB 5, English comp 5, World History 3, Statistics and English Lit this year
SAT II: Math I 760, Physics 690
Essay was his first and was rather generic
Teacher recs were very good
OOS: Colorado
Rigorous public school
Rank: 4 of 395
EC’s: Pretty good, but yours are stronger
He did apply in August and early applications get priority for scholarships.
