Merit Scholarship Opportunities?

Hi everybody!

I was looking into Pitt, but noticed that their website isn't real helpful when it comes to scholarships. Could anyone give me some info. about their merit-based scholarships? And based on my stats, could I expect to receive anything?

Thanks!

Stats:
ACT: 36 (36, 36, 36, 36, 35)
SAT: 2220 (750, 680, 790)
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.62 W
Class: Easily top 10% of class, very competitive private school
4 completed APs (3 5s and a 4), 4 this coming year.
Good ECs, volunteering, captain of volleyball and academic team, youth in govt., etc.
3 year research project, won many awards at state fair.
OOS student (Ohio)

Oh forgot to say, if this matters, PSAT 221, almost certainly NMF.

Apply early. Pitt does not give big money for National Merit, but your numbers are competitive for merit money. The numbers have been going up every year.

How early do you think I should apply?

You can apply now! They have been accepting applications already!

Western illinois university… 32 act score + 3.5 or higher GPA equals full tuition plus room

Pitt is pretty close to some places in Ohio. If you are visiting Pitt this summer, you can apply while you are on campus. If you are not visiting, try to get your application in by the end of September. There is an essay, I think, if you want to be considered for the honors college. Do the essay. Good luck.

Really? Wow, I’ll have to get started. How long does it take for scholarship notifications to come back?

In the past years, the first acceptances were mailed around the first week of October. Scholarship notifications follow within a couple of weeks. Last year, the scholarship awards did not seem to be mailed as soon as they had in years past and some people waited quite a while. IMHO, the kids with really good numbers can hear pretty quickly. I would put you in that group with a perfect GPA and ACTs.

Apply now and if possible do a tour of Pitt ASAP. The combination of the two will definitely show interest and will probably make them give you a response faster.

Write an essay to turn in with your application.

Talk to teachers now (if you have their email) to get them to send in teacher recs (in the summer if possible, if not right when the school year starts).

If you have your GCs email, contact them to have them write a letter and ensure that your HS transcript is sent as soon as the school year begins (that way your entire application is complete as soon as possible).
