@ poprockmom - yes, it is a bit different this year though. As you probably know there is not enough housing in the dorms and they are building a brand, new dorm for fall of 2013 where the McD’s used to be right next door. The catch is that if you sign up for housing next fall 2012, you MUST be in Berklee housing for sophomore year too.

We went ahead and did the deposit, et. to hold a place but the 2 year commitment was a bit of a shocker. (Thanks for the congrats - does take the pressure off over whats to come in the next month)

poprockmom, congrats to your S! My D is a 6th semester student at Berklee also majoring in CW&P; she is a vocalist that plays piano. She loves her classes and professors in that major.

Wow, wondering if that committment would be for the same dorm or opportunity to move in to the new one. Guess I will need to read the fine print. Thanks for the ‘heads up’, Squiggles!

@SnowflakeVT: I spoke to a very bright student rep on my son’s audition day who was majoring in CW & P and seemed to think that was the best major there. My S also does vocal as well in addition to piano.

My S was accepted to the conservatory at Capital U today, with a $11,500 per year music scholarship.

He auditioned on (electric) bass guitar for a Music Tech/jazz studies BM (same audition, different majors, but he could have done Music Tech/classical). He will likely choose Music Tech which is a performance degree as well.

Not sure if he will attend, we are waiting on FA and some other school decisions, as well as the “study music or not” decision, period, but it is high on his list.

It’s nice to know a kid who is entirely self taught on this instrument can get past a performance and tests in theory and musicianship in the audition process, I’m very proud of him.
