Not to compare apples to oranges but a Service Academy appointment is worth about 60k per year (full tuition scholarship, room and board, medical and dental, plus monthly pay allowance).

I'd like to add that in addition to the previous mentioned scholarships, my son just received notice that he has been awarded the Chancellor's Scholarship from TCU--4 years free tuition. We took Curmudgeon's advice and applied only to school's (well, except Tulane) where he would stand out--and it seems to be paying off.

There are lots of things worse than being a smart male at TCU. ;) Congrats to your son. Is full -tuition going to make TCU affordable for y'all? Has it moved to first choice? That Tulane schol is not shabby but this one covers lots more.

Well, TCU is HIS first choice at the moment. He loves the political science programs that they have to offer. I really worry about him going to a school where so many of the students are so affluent and he is so not. I don't know--probably just my own hangup. Whether it is affordable is questionable as well- According to our FAFSA we can afford that and more (something else you warned me about). Hopefully he will get some of the local scholarships for which he has applied and those will help. Even so, I told him to start writing down all the pros and cons of each school because it won't be long before he is going to have to commit. Anyway--thanks for the congrats.

Go CCers! Nice work and congrats to all!

Happy to report d received 15 k per year and invitation to apply to honors college at U San Diego, and 11 K per year at U Miami! Both EA..

Here are brief stats pasted in from CC stats page. I couldn't get the EC's to save for some reason, and just typed them in a previous post and got kicked out, so I'm not typing them again!

My D received notice from Ohio State University that she'll be receiving the National Buckeye Plus Scholarship ($6,600/yr) along with their Trustees Scholarship ($1,050/yr).

S was offered $16,000 at College of Wooster, 12,000 at Randolph

Stats:

S has received 14.5K per year at Trinity U. (texas) "trustee" scholarship as well as 16k per year at Pacific Lutheran and invitation to interview weekend for full tuition "Regents" scholarship.
Okay, DS was offered not-their-top scholarship at Trinity U. ;) Their website doesn't even mention a trustee scholarship that I can find -but it's all good. Congrats orjr! :)

anxiousmom - congrats to us all :) I noticed another poster saying they received a 17.5K scholarship from Trinity (!) so I'm wondering if their website might be out of date.
At this point, every notice with good news is exciting, I'm sure there will be some not-so-good news coming along as well...

Good news in the mail today - DS received Hallie Ford scholarship at Willamette U. - 15k. All his EA's are in now - so the rest wait til April. Time to take a break and go skiing!

Long time lurker here, dropping in to share my pleasant surprise :). I was taken quite off-guard today to recieve a letter from Case Western Reserve (didn't think I would hear until April) telling me that I had been accepted for the Class of 2011 and had received their Trustee's Scholarship, which is $26,800 renewable for 4 years! Case is my safety, but I like it (I like all of my colleges) and as a non Finaid student it is certainly nice to know that my safety school, if I ended up there, is an excellent school that would only cost my family $16,000/yr. My stats were: 3.82 unw GPA, 14/768 class rank, 2290 SAT I and 2320 for 3 SAT II's. Extras are decent, though modest by CC standards.

Man, they are coming in now. Great job everybody.

Guess it's time to add D's scholarships: DePauw Presidential ($17000/year), Centre Faculty ($16000/year), Hendrix Academic + Odyssey Award for Service ($12+4=$16000/year).

Glad for those, but still hoping she might receive some of the full tuition scholarships she has been recommended for/has applied for.

My son has received the National Scholar at Iowa -$2835/yr, Chancellors and National Scholar at Colorado - $15,000/yr, National Scholar at Minnesota- waiver of out of state tuition ($11,000/yr. He has applied for other scholarships at these schools but no word yet. Also waiting to see if he advances to Finalist for Presidential at Georgia Tech.

3.9 uw 4.1 weighted GPA
32 ACT
2160 SAT
top 10% class rank.

Forgot to list stats: 4.3 gpa/3.93 unweighted, 8 AP's, 34 ACT, NM Commended, AP Scholar, strong EC's including leadership (although not as crazy-amazing on some on CC!), parochial prep school/does not rank.

DS just got offered $4000 a year for 4 years from UT-Austin, engineering department. (about half tuition for us instaters.) :) He needs a 3.5 gpa to keep the scholarship. Dang, that is steep! Oh well - even if he only got it for a year, it would certainly help out!

Well, this has been quite an eventful week! After a rejection from Stanford SCEA in December, my son found out late last week that he was accepted at USC and he was a finalist for their 1/2 tuition scholarship. Then he heard that he received a $6,000/yr scholarship from the University of Texas College of Engineering (which, given their tuition of $8,000/yr, makes it a 3/4 tuition scholarship). Then today he got his acceptance package from Rice and was awarded a $14,500/yr scholarship (renewable for 4 years) AND he was selected as a Century Scholar giving him a guaranteed research mentorship for his first 2 years and $8,000 for each of the 2 years!!! Woo hoo! :D
