^^^ Proving, yet again, that for every door that closes ... another one opens! Congratulations to your son, blackeyedsusan.

Thanks, kelsmom! Yes, he's feeling a little better about things now.

BES, Congrats to your son on his acceptance and scholarships to Rice! He must be someone special, I know how much harder it is for kids from Houston. Glad that things are looking up after a difficult start.

My son got several awards from Rice, adding up to full tuition and enough for almost half room & board. He is blown away!

My D just got word that she received Rice's Trustee Distinguished Scholar and Century Scholar awards. Great news!

It keeps coming in, Rice is nice!!! Congrats to all. Outstanding.

Another Rice scholarship here -- S was awarded the Barbara Jordan Scholarship ($14,500/year for 4 years). The best part is that it only requires a 2.8 to maintain it. We're so thrilled for him!

Wonderful news patsmom, what an honor to get the Jordan Scholarship! Rice certainly is Nice :)

My D most recently received a $9000/yr Presidential Scholarship at Earlham and is awaiting results from the Presidential Scholarship competition at Beloit. She interviews Fri for the full ride Presidential Scholarship series at SIUE.

In case I didn't post this previously, she is top 10%, 4.96W/4.0, 30 ACT, 1340/2020 SAT, many community activities, most art-related.

S just received phone call following interview weekend - has received the full tuition regents scholarship at Pacific Lutheran University. It ain't Harvard, but it sounds good to us!
It's fun to share everyone's good news - congrats all!

S got the same at Rice as blown away and then some. As I am superstitious I will not yet name the other schools that have given full tuition. All pale in magnitude compared to one that may end making him money each year. In this case the parents were blown away by the offer.

I got a full-tuition scholarship for UConn, called the "Leadership Award" or something like that.

I am in-state. GPA: ~3.7uw not sure what weighted GPA is. Test scores: 2070 SAT, 30 ACT (31 English, 34 Math). I was awarded this scholarship through my achievement in academics and extracurricular activities.

D has been awarded the Chapin Presidential Scholarship at Beloit College, a $56,000 ($14,000/yr) value.

About 3 months ago, I called ASU and they said that my core, unweighted GPA was too low to receive any scholarships. After sending in my mid-year report, I just got a letter saying I got the Provost's Scholarship for 6500 annually. Not too shabby.

My son was just awarded $8000/year in academic scholarships from the University of Tulsa.

He has a 4.3 weighted GPA, top 7% of his class of 450 in a competitive public high school, and 670 math, 670 verbal, 600 writing on the SAT. He only took the SAT once since he just skipped a grade so that he can graduate a year early this spring and go to Germany for a Rotary youth exchange year before starting at Tulsa in 2008 (they will hold his admission and scholarship for a year).

He is still waiting to hear about band scholarships for which he auditioned earlier this month. Those range from $1000-$10,000 per year.

My daughter just received a Stamps Scholarship from UMich. Worth 50K

Mamac, Congratulations! I never heard of the Stamps at UMich, is that one that they are automatically up for, or a separate application?

MY DD has been awarded the Chancellor's Scholarship at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. This is a 4-yr full-ride including tuition/fees/ room&board/books and designation as a Dean's Scholar. Twenty of these scholarships are awarded out of 1700 accepted freshmen from 6000 applicants. The school's required senior capstone integrative learning experience is one of only 15 universities nationally recognized by USNWR in a list that includes Harvard, MIT, Duke, Princeton, and Chicago. My feelings on state uni safeties have changed!
