I got a full ride to UNC Chapel Hill :)
I think I am pretty much going there no matter where else I get in

margsala: Can you name the scholarship that is a full ride to Chapel Hill? Maybe your stats too if you're so inclined. Thanks.

dstark, S was accepted to Pitt on 1/31 and the scholarship came yesterday, 3/2. However I know that many kids who applied early heard much more quickly, and if I had it to do over again I'd have encouraged S to apply in the fall. He actually was invited to apply with the application fee waived, but Pitt wasn't on our radar at the time. We live and learn.

Hey. You received $10,000.

My son received a postcard reminding him to pay the $300 deposit fee.

I expect a good write-up on Pitt after your visit. :)

Congrats again.

weenie, I am an out of state student recepient of the Pogue Scholarship.
Rank: 27 out of 1241 (32 at the time I applied)
SAT: 2230, SATII: 800 Spanish, 780 Math IIC, 730 USH
Extracurriculars: Varsity XC, Senior-Editor of School Magazine, President of International Club... some other minor ones. A lot of community service (tutoring), wrote for small town magazine.
Hooks: 1/4 Hispanic, Speak 5 Languages, IB Diploma Candidate, Came to US in 7th grade

I have no idea how they do the Pogue. It seems really random! I think the minority thing helped a bit because the Pogue is historically a minority scholarship. It focuses a lot on diversity and service and leadership.

^ BTW, i got the pogue too...and im not a minority! im about as white as the snow outside my door...and thats part of the pogue too. it recognizes all races. its all good and me and margaret here are gonna be classmates!! whoo hoo!!

I'm so excited for both of you!

update on U of M scholarships for daughter. She received $40,000 stamps scholarship, $40,000 nursing scholarship, $2,000 per year honors and $1,500 regents scholarship. In state: 3.9 gpa, 33 ACT. 2030 SAT. We are thrilled.
Needless to say, she will be a wolverine next year. We feel so blessed.

D has received 16K per yr at ONU as an honors scholar. SHe is waiting to hear from other schools. Only applied RD so she be hearing information soon? She has now moved up in rank at semester end 2/361. She is thrilled with her accomplishments as are we.

DS Grinnell College early-write $15k per yr merit. Kalamzaoo College $13.5K per yr merit.

My daughter was previously awarded the Honors Scholarship at Kansas State University -- amounts to about 1/2 of non-resident tuition and fees for all four years. She got a letter last week awarding her another $2,000 for her freshman year from the College of Agriculture. Her stats are 3.9 weighted GPA, 31 ACT. She has also completed about 40 semester hours of college credit while in high school (AP in addition to classes taken at UConn). She's applying simultaneously for early admission to K-State's college of veterinary medicine. Her merit aid reduces the cost of K-State to about $4,000 less than it would cost us to send her to UConn as a state reisdent.

Daughter was offered $8,000 for each year, a Faculty Scholarship, from Philadelphia University.

D2 accepted to University of Redlands (Redlands, CA) rolling admission a couple of months ago and to Ursinus College (Collegeville, PA) last month. She was offered $6,000 per year at Redlands. Yesterday she heard that she was offered a $17,500 Ursinus College Scholar award, renewable for all four years with fulltime enrollment and maintenance of a minimal GPA.

SATs 1990, "Overall" GPA 3.75, "Academic" GPA 3.666 which puts her in the top third of her class at a large public HS. She is in the IB program.

She would not qualify for any need based aid. I know, having filled out the FAFSA for D1 three years ago. She likes Ursinus and that offer may make it irresistable (I hope). But then D1 turned down a five figure/year James E. Scripps Scholarship offer from Scripps to go to another institution where all she got was $1,000/year NMS scholarship. Sigh.

D just notified officially by letter rec'd top scholarship at Doane College (very small LAC). Full tuition up to 17 credit hours per semester, renewable for up to 4 years with a 3.5 GPA. Value about $18,500 per year.

Her stats include #1 in class, cumulative 4 year GPA 99.45%, many EC's including leadership positions (president) including student govt, music, drama, forensics, 3 yrs varsity sports. ACT (single sitting) 32 comp.; SAT (single sitting) 2210. National Merit finalist.

D received the Wilson Trustee Scholarship at the University of Rochester: $10,000/year, renewable for 4 years. We'll need to see what she has to do to keep the scholarship, but we're very happy!

Just recieved the letter notifying me today... a $17,500/year scholarship to Ursinus College (Collegeville, PA) through the Ursinus College Scholarship Awards.

Stats: 2100 SAT (V: 710, M: 680, W: 710), unweighted GPA 3.80 with a weighted GPA of 4.28, 1/60 class rank (although my school does not "officially" rank its students).

$8000/yr Trustee's Scholarship from University of Puget Sound, possibly more once I get my honors app in (I wasn't going to apply for it but they sent one to me in the mail a few days ago practically begging me to turn one in 3 weeks late)

2110 SAT (800V 600M 710W)
SAT IIs: 770 USH, 770 English Lit, 710 French
APs: USH 5, Eng L&C 4, Psych 4
6/209 class rank
UW GPA 3.9 W 4.1
National Merit Scholar
AP Scholar
don't feel like listing my ECs, but they're not anything athletic....
my teacher recs were insanely good. I almost cried when I read them.

Congratulations peindre?!!

I DID cry when I read my son's rec. I take it out and read it whenever I have doubts.

D received the Deans Scholarship(15,000/year) to American University.:)

DD was accepted to Lewis and Clark as a Barbara Hirschi Neely Scholar ($124,000 over four years).
Stats:
SAT I: 2240
SAT IIs: 780, 760, 740
ACT: 32
4.0 (UW)/4.5(W)
AP Scholar with Honors
National Achievement Scholar
Excellent ECs, including TASP
Needless to say, we are very pleased. She is going to have to make some difficult choices in the coming days!
