Master of Finance at Fordham

Hi!

I applied to 5 universities and received 4 acceptances: Forham, Boston College, University of Rochester and University of Miami. I am still waiting for the answer from Babson.

Currently Fordham is my favorite and I think that in the end I will choose this university or Boston.

At Fordham, I really appreciate the location and the electives in the program. In terms of the program, I don’t think BC offers many opportunities to specialize.
What makes me a little worried about Fordham is that Lincoln Center is right in Manhattan and I’m afraid that students tend to live for themselves and there is less community feeling compared to the others.

Can anyone share their experiences and maybe compare Fordham to the others?
Also, what about Fordham’s reputation in the finance industry? Many threads on this topic are very old…

Thanks a lot!

Wallstreetoasis forums will give you a lot of info about Fordham’s reputation in the finance industry. From what I understand, Fordham places very well due to its location.

Covid has done a real number on building a community in educational institutions in the past couple of years. Anyone’s experience that is more than a year old won’t be applicable to your situation.

There are Fordham alumni all over Wall Street - just look at who the business school is named after. You also get some great adjunct instructors with real world experience (I was one 30+ years ago) because of the Manhattan location. Most graduate students tend to be more independent, so I’m not sure you’re going to find that “community feeling” the same way you did at the undergraduate level.

The social life in a masters program will be very different than undergrad. The students are older, many are working and/or have families so they are not looking to their fellow students for social life. I personally know two people who got a masters in finance from BC. Both were working full time while they took courses part time.
