Hey everyone, I’ve recently been accepted to both of these schools as a junior transfer into their business programs, and I can’t decide which to choose. I’m probably going to visit both because I’ve never been to either(I live in the west coast), but I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on these two schools. I know that NEU is ranked a little better than Fordham, but I heard Fordham makes up for that by having a lot of opportunities in NYC.
My major is finance if that makes a difference. So any information on these schools would be awesome, thanks!

If prices are similar I would undoubtedly go Fordham especially for Finance. Their alumini connection within NYC is really strong. They also have major cooperation that come to recruit ex Goldman Sacs, Stanley
My S went to Fordham (accounting major) and had a great experience. I can’t speak to NEU (he had no interest in the co-op aspect of the school and didn’t even consider it) but I can tell you that Fordham provided him with a great education, strong internship opportunities, and a wonderful overall college life. And my S got into a great grad school from Fordham.
The one caveat I’d say to any transfer to Fordham is that the school has a large core curriculum which you need to finish to graduate. See if there is someone you can speak to so you can go over your transcript to date, see what classes you need, and determine if you can graduate on time. It would probably make sense to do this at NEU as well.
Also if you want to settle in either NYC or Boston that could play a part in the decision as well as each school would have more contacts/alumni in the city they are in. From what I can see any difference in ranking would be so small as to be pretty meaningless. It comes down to what the best fit for you would be. Two great choices – congrats!
Thanks for the responses! I’m leading towards Fordham because I want to end up in NYC, but I’ll visit both to be sure.
It depends on how much you really want that co-op experience. Fordham is well-known for its business program and its connections with NYC. As long as you can afford it, go with Fordham!
I have a question for those who replied to this thread: Would you say that Fordham has a better business program overall or is it just the Finance that excels? In every type of ranking I have seen, NEU has a higher ranking business program. I thought I would get a little input about that.
Fordham has better connections and a better program in Finance and Marketing
Yeah I’ve heard Fordham has great connections in NYC, especially with finance. Do any of you know more info on Northeastern’s co-op program?
Also, what makes Fordham’s finance program better than Northeasterns? Does Northeastern not get as much recruiting?
As a current business major at Northeastern, I can tell you that it’s all about where you want to work. Northeastern is slightly more selective than Fordham, but I would say the Finance programs are equal. Northeastern also gets a lot of recruiting, but you also have the advantage of networking through co-op, and you can co-op with major firms since Northeastern has those connections in Boston. Northeastern will provide you with more opportunities in Boston and Fordham more opportunities in New York City.
And as a native of NYC, I have been to the area near Fordham and while the campus is very nice, the surrounding area ( the Bronx) isn’t. So you should consider that.
Fordham also has two campuses. The Bronx isn’t all that great, but you could find yourself at Lincoln Center which is a very nice area.
But it’s NYC, so even if you don’t like the Bronx, you’re only like 20 min away from the Upper East and West Side.
My S went to Rose Hill in the Bronx. The campus itself is a gorgeous traditional Gothic campus and it is a gated campus. The surrounding area is mixed but it does have Arthur Avenue close by which is a big plus.
^^^Also very easy access to Manhattan via RamVan (between Fordham campuses), subway and MetroNorth.
Also just to talk about Northeastern’s surrounding area. I feel that we have the best campus in the city of Boston. Its a little smaller than Fordham and a open campus, but it still has a lot of green space. The buildings are a mix of old and new, much like the city of Boston. Newbury Street, Fenway Park, and the Prudential Center are a short walk away and we have a train station on campus and an above ground train (the green line), so you can basically get anywhere in the city. The MFA is basically on-campus and it’s free to students, as well as the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
I would go with Northeastern. Better academic reputation, better career placement, co-op, etc.
