Masters GPA Below 3.0 - Will I be kicked out?

Hi everyone,

I just finished my first semester of grad school, with a C, two Bs, and an A. My GPA is 2.88 currently, below the 3.0 min, and I'm incredibly worried about being kicked out.

Will I just be put on probation? Or will I be cut?
Who can I talk to to be proactive about this?

Thanks for your help!

Talk to your department’s graduate office, nobody here can help you.

AuraObscura is correct - you really need to talk to your department to know for sure. Typically, in my experience, there is a minimum GPA of 3.00. If you drop below it, you go on probation for a semester. At the end of that semester, if you are still below 3.00 then you are out. But talk to them, your department may have different policies.

If you can’t find a department head because of the season, try asking an administrative assistant how these things have been handled in the past.
