Masters of Accounting Online Degrees

Hi,

I plan to pursue a career as a CPA. At some point down the road I may want to teach some accounting classes online. I’m 24, and graduated a year ago with a B.B.A. in Finance (4.0 GPA). I only have 10 credits in Accounting courses, but I have a good grasp of basic accounting principles due to my major.

I think the next step for me is a Masters of Accounting. It will be give me the education I need to take the CPA exam, and the credentials to (hopefully) be able to teach in the future.

I am looking for an online program ideally with total tuition costs under $20k. I would prefer a program which does not have a lot of prerequisites. I am looking at two MAcc options at this point; Florida Atlantic University and St Joseph College of Maine.

I attended FAU for my undergrad, at which time I was a Florida resident so tuition was very cheap. Now that I live up north I would have to pay the out of state cost ($926.42 vs $319.96), unless I move back to Florida (not out of the question). FAU is AACSB accredited. I would need to take 3 prereq classes in addition to the 10 program classes. I would also have to take either the GMAT or GRE. Total cost with prerequisites $12,480 in state, $36,114 out of state.

SJCME’s program has no prereqs other than a business degree, which I have. 12 classes. I don’t know much about this school but I have heard some good things about it. I currently live in NH so physically I am not that far from the school (which could be an advantage). It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges but not AACSB. Total cost: $16,200.

Can anyone offer advice on which of these programs would be a better choice for me? How important is AACSB accreditation for a career as a CPA? Would I be able to work as an online teacher with a masters degree like the one from SJCME (assuming I also hold CPA designation)?

Are there similar programs out there that anyone can s***est?

Thank you!

If you want to teach, then it is essential for the program you choose to be AACSB accredited. St, Joseph’s does not have this accredidation. FAU does. But you should double-check.
