Congrats on your academic accomplishments. What do your ECs look like, etc. You are more than a GPA and test score.
So I know there are 3 UC GPAs. Someone else will provide tables but you should figure those out. The UCs and I believe Cal State schools are test blind - so if your heart is only set on a California public, you don’t need the test.
Outside of the Cal State schools, you know all these are reaches.
Other biomedical you’d get into - just looking at the US News list - they show 33 - and not all are the schools you listed so make sure they have your major.
ASU - Likely
Florida - Reach - but not to the level of your original list
Penn State - Match OOS
Pitt - Likely
Texas A&M
UMN - Match
UWM - High Match/Low Reach
I left off CWRU - I think it’s a high reach but it is one to consider as @gablesdad mentioned - I just think it’s super hard.
There wasn’t a good list for bio physics.
Best of luck.
Edit - because you prefer to stay in CA, I’m sure between the UCs and State schools you’ll find a match - and neighboring Arizona is is inexpensive as well. You likely won’t even need to apply outside of CA if a Merced or Riverside work for you. And looking at their website, Arizona is a safety - and it has the major (in addition to ASU).
Thank you so much. He wasn’t too hot on Arizona, but I can discuss. Similarly unenthusiastic about Merced and Riverside. My daughter was the same unfortunately.
That’s fine - lots of others - I just gravitated to the prefer California schools. I don’t know if it’s coming in time with his major - but Cal State Humboldt just went Poly. Looks like San Jose and Bakersfield have.
Good luck to your soon - and take a look at some of the options mentioned.
Not sure what you seek size wise - but google the word “Niche” + biomedical engineering and it will give you a list of all schools.
I’d say go to page 3 and start scrolling down - starts with Clemson - some of these will be match and further down safety. For example, WPI and Michigan Tech are on there if cold is ok and both are great.
Local CSU is Northridge. I can’t see that being a good fit for him. Thank you for the links, I’ve lost all that info since my last college hopeful!
Thank you for the suggestions! Will check out Niche. He probably wouldn’t like the cold, but he may not be able to stay in CA for his major. Very competitive here.
You’ll find warmth Just looking at Niche - and again don’t know size preference but you run big on your list - so here’s warmth. And first let me add U of Pacfic in Stockton has the major (keeping it in CA). And don’t forget the WUE for discounted tuition - for warm - U of Hawaii has the major and is on the program.
Auburn - likely
Florida Tech - Likely - smaller - fine school with merit. Nice campus. Does skew toward aviation.
Appreciate the suggestions! He comes from a small high school and would probably prefer small, but for his major we’re finding big research universities a better fit. You’ve given me some great suggestions.
Trying to stay in California or as close as possible, here are a few other options for biomedical engineering. I think the top two would probably be likelies, and the third a safety.
Loyola Marymount,
University of the Pacific
University of Nevada - Reno
Thinking about biophysics, some of the other Claremont colleges offer the major: Claremont McKenna and Pitzer, though they are probably low reaches/high targets. University of San Diego also offers biophysics and I think this would be a likely, bordering on safety.
Thank you so much. I hadn’t thought about the other Claremont colleges. USD would be a good culture fit, hadn’t thought of them for bio. Really appreciate the suggestions!
