Hi, I'm currently a freshman Classics major at the University of Maryland, College Park. I'm looking to transfer out to somewhere more urban, on the East Coast, and relatively prestigious. I love New York and Boston, NYU is my dream, but it might be a bit of a reach, considering my complete and utter ineptitude in anything math-related. Anyway, seeing as NYU is sort of a reach for me, I'm wondering if anyone has any other, safer, college recommendations or match schools.

I took the hardest courseload available in all subjects, except math, at a competitive private school.

GPA
3.6 UW
4.0 W
(If it helps any, my GPA was brought down by consistent B's in math and the math-related sciences ((physics arrrrgh)). My GPA in purely liberal arts courses stands at about a 3.9)

AP Scores
English Literature and Composition-5
English Language and Composition-4
US History-4
US Government and Politics-4
European History-4
Spanish-2 (d'oh)
I think that qualifies me for AP Scholar with Distinction, but I'm not sure.

SATI
730V
500M (d'oh)
Should I get math tutoring and retake it as a college freshman?

SATII
Literature-720
Writing-690
US History-660

EC's
Varsity Indoor Track-9,10,11
Varsity Outdoor Track-9,10,11 (had to stop due to injury)
Newspaper-10-12 (World News and Politics Editor 12th grade)
Literary Magazine 11, 12 (Editor in Chief 12)
Congressional Seminar on Constitutionality of Guantanamo Bay-12
100+ hours of community service; I also acted as a caregiver for a severely handicapped child, as well as volunteering at soup kitchens.
I know this list is weak, but it's because track was such an all-consuming thing for me. I was a member of several top-ranked relay teams, and basically that killed all my free time, until I got injured senior year and was able to take on some more academic EC's. Should I mention this?

College EC's
Literary and Arts Journal Staff
College Democrats

I had very, very strong recommendations from teachers in my AP classes. And I write good essays, so that should help me as well.

As a first semester freshman, I'm currently taking three 100-level courses, as well as 200 level and a 300 level. As of midterms, I have a 4.0, which I expect to carry through the rest of the semester. Next semester, I'm planning on pulling 19 credits, again with a few upper-level courses thrown in (argh), but only one math class (yay), so my GPA should remain intact.

Any help on getting me out of here would be awesome.
