any info from a actual matl. engineer or student. thanks!

What are you wanting to do with the degree? There are certainly paths where a master’s or FE are needed, but not for the majority of Materials Engineering.

I’ll have my bachelors in Materials Engineering from Cal Poly SLO come June 2013, and I’ve accepted an offer at a refinery for after I graduate and certainly have no plans to go after a master’s degree or FE/PE.

I want to be an higher up Engineering manager for a company, like working at a car plant for example or for a gas/oil company

You’d probably be best off getting a job for a while, excel at your position, and then possibly go back to school for an MBA to help make a transition to management (at some companies you can even get your MBA paid for). There aren’t many places where you’d be expected to have a PE as a manager as a materials engineer. The FE isn’t really worth anything; it’s really only there as a gatekeeper to the PE exam (as minor of a hurdle as it might be).
