Does Dartmouth look down on people who take the math 1 subject test? I signed up for bio and lit for this weekend, but I just took a bio practice test where my score was 430. I don’t want to take math 2 because even though I’m in BC, I forgot a lot of things. I’m applying as a neuroscience/psychology/history major, if that makes a difference. Thanks!
I think your best choice is to take both math 1 and math 2, and send the higher score. The math 2 has a much more generous curve, so you might actually perform better on it.
@gearsstudio Do you know if it’s similar to the ACT math section?
@ALananhR In some ways, the math 2 is easier than the ACT math section. The time constriction makes the ACT math section very demanding time wise. The math 2, on the other hand, provides a good amount of time to complete the test. The difficulty of the actual questions is similar for both, maybe math 2 is marginally more difficult. I personally struggled with the ACT math section but got an 800 on math 2.
@ALananhR I did the ACT and Math 2 as well and thought that the two tests were pretty similar. Math 2 has a lot more time compared to the ACT though. I was planning on doing Math 1 but then did practice tests in both math sections and did a lot better in Math 2, possible because the curve is considerably more generous.
I doubt Dartmouth looks down on Math 1 but I would recommend taking both practice tests to see which one you like more and then register for that one.
