When I click on the course material, there are like 5 different books that says "Pick One". So does that mean I just have to buy one of those books? Then how should I decide which one to buy?

1: The textbook. It is not required, but it extremely helpful. There are two hardcover versions. One is the full textbook that will cover both Math19A and Math19B, the other option is “volume 1” which is just the material for Math19A.

2: Homework access. For the class you’re going to be using an online homework system that you have to buy an access code for. I suggest buying the 1-quarter access, as you probably will not need to access the system for 3 quarters.

I took the class with Bauerle, so if you have any other questions I may be able to assist. :P

Oh thanks, but I’m going to take the Math 19A-02. Is it the same?

And also, when should I buy the textbook? Should I buy them before class begins?

I checked, the class materials are the same.

You can buy before school if you want to snag a cheaper used textbook, or you can wait until class starts if you want to hear the teacher’s recommendation.

Where do you check for course materials? I’m enrolled in math 19B, and I want to buy the textbook early.

[The Bay Tree Bookstore - Textbooks](http://slugstore.ucsc.edu/ePOS?design=baytree&form=shared3/textbooks/main.html&store=721)

:)

I…forgot about that…thanks!

For the homework code, u suggest me to buy only one quarter? But am i suppose to enroll in Math 19B next quarter?

And Also, I can’t order the textbooks right now, and it says Contact them, so I am suppose to email/call them in order to order?

No idea, sorry. =/

And yeah, you have 19B after that, which will probably require the homework pass again. But the quarter after that (spring)…well, you’ll likely not need it.

so I should buy one homework code for now, then buy another one after the first quarter?

I think you might be a little confused, or I misunderstood you. You don’t order textbooks from the Bay Tree, you only buy them in person. However, you can copy the ISBN and search for the books on Amazon, Half.com, etc in order to buy earlier and cheaper.

Are you going to take math 22 in the spring? If you’re then you’re going to need an access code for web assign for that so I would suggest you buy the 3 quarter access code for web assign.

BTW: If you want to save money… just do a little GOOGLE searching for the ebook version of the calculus book. I found it for my friend for her freshman year and she was able to use it for math 19a, 19b, and I believe math 22. Not promoting anything, but just dropping a hint ;). I used to tutor in math and I hated lugging around that book, so having it available on my laptop was really nice.

I forgot the prices for webassign, but if you’re in 19A, then you might as well get the 3-quarter pass if you’re planning on going till math 22.

I think I am going to take Math 23A at the spring? So should I just buy one quarter for now?

And also, I can only buy the homework access code from the bay tree store?

You can buy the access code online at the webassign website or in the bookstore, but you need the course information from the syllabus to be able to sign up for your class. Your professor will give you a 14 day trial for the website because some students end up dropping the course and then they are screwed in terms of obtaining a refund.

so I should wait until school begins for that?

I don’t really see what you can gain from buying the access code early other than getting it out of the way. I’d be safe and get it during the first week of class (just in case you want to switch classes).
