Hello,

I am currently making my schedule. I can't attend CalSO (I live in North Africa), and I can't receive credit, since my school does not give IB or AP tests.

Nevertheless, what we study in class is way more advanced than Math 1A courses. I took some past Math 1A exams and they all seemed very easy to me.

Since I can't get credit for Math 1A and start off directly with Math 1B, I thought about taking a UC Berkeley Extension online course (Calculus X1A) during summer and start directly with Math 1B. Is it possible?

What do you advise me to do? I don't want to kill my GPA from the beginning, but I don't want to spend one semester doing nothing new in Maths.

Thank you.

Try contacting the Math department with your question about placement.

You may also want to check with the department of your intended major to see what they have to say about fulfilling any math requirements for the major.

However, note that Extension courses prefixed by XB or XBW, not just X, are the ones considered equivalent to regular courses: [Undergraduate-Level Courses — UC Berkeley Extension](http://extension.berkeley.edu/undergrad/)

dude, North Africa…you are awesome. I would hope taking the extension is possible, but if what ucbalumnus says about only XB and XBW courses being equivalent, you may just take Math 1A, get an A, and get that GPA high. I’m sure you’ll take some other challenging courses your first semester anyways.
