Will I die? I know I'm supposed to know best how well I can cope, but I just wanted some insight as to how much effort the two classes require. I'm taking 1B with Aganagic, and it seems like her curve is quite generous as far as 1B goes (anyone care to verify this?), and 53 with Stankova, whom I've heard is pretty awesome as well.
I have covered a lot of 1B's material before, so most of the content won't be totally new to me...in addition to those 2 classes, I'm planning on taking Econ C175 and Classics 10B.

I'm asking this because I really want to clear my prereqs and get started on Econ 101 series Fall 2011.

yeah you can
You really don’t need Taylor Series or that type of stuff for math 53. Integration techniques and decent problem solving skills are what you need for math 53.

It really comes down to how good you are at math

econ c175 is a great choice, i highhhlyyy recommennndddd…
im taking 110 and 53 nextttttttttt semmmmmmmmmmm’ster. its natural to take multiple math classes in one sem’ster. its what all of us are req’d to doooooooooo for any math-related major, unless u stay here 6 years or go to summ
skoo, foooooo

best get used to it. *** is your major btw, econ c175, math 53? you’re as F’d up as I ammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm … mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Curve for 1B with Aganagic is very generous. MTs and Final are also very easy, she provides hints for nearly every question on the specific integration technique you should use. I noticed that you did the A level examinations in high school so you should already have credit for 1A/B. In this case, you don’t have to take 1B again. The only relevant stuff from 1B that applies to 53 imo is integration by parts and other integration techniques. Even then, the focus in 53 isn’t on integrating insanely complex functions but on setting up the equations. Solving them once you have everything set up usually involves only basic integration skills. If you are already familiar with integrating stuff and have credit for 1B, don’t bother taking it again.

Do you think I can just go to Math 1B and take tests and stuff without being in the class? I kinda just want to see if I would pass with a good grade in the future. I haven’t done any math at Berk.

Sweet, thanks for the great info, copperback. I was thinking of taking 1B because I was considering a major in Stats, but I think I get to place out of 1B too…I guess it’s only Haas that’s being iffy about it and requiring me to do 16B or 1B again.
