Math 2 vs Math 1 for a good math student.

Hey guys, Im a confused 11th grader here. I took the november SAT and got a total of 2210 with a 780 in math (i didnt prep AT ALL, only did 5 or 6 odd math sections in practise tests, none of which were below 760 in math).

From this background, im trying to decide whether i should take the Math Level 1 or Level 2 test. I gave both on the CB website and got a 46 in Lv2 and 47 in Lv1. ( i would've got a 48, but i hadn't done complex numbers at the time, since this was nearly 8 months ago) . I realise the math 2 curve is a cakewalk, i mean like 42 and 800 is just wow. This being said, is there a disadvantage of taking the lv2 test? Because to the best of my knowledge , the lv2 is more difficult (or just covers more "advanced" topics, in my opinion, i found the LV2 easier).

Im excellent at math, but prone to silly mistakes. Ive never looked at a question and not known how to solve it, ive only made dumb errors like 3-1 = 4 . Im very proficient at trig, decent at calc (i know its not tested, but still), okay at graphs and 3-D geometry (ill be fine in a few weeks, just covering those topics now) and algebra and the likes is no problem.

Knowing all this, i just wanted a second opinion on what test to take. Ill probably be taking them this jan or next june.

Cheers!

PS im an international student (india), and i got really confused by things like "take this course! Algebra 2 or Trig A" so i'd appreciate it if people could refrain from using US-specific terminology.

Take Math 2. If you’re prone to silly mistakes, the M2 curve would suit you fine, since it’s very lenient.
BTW I’m Indian too :D

If you’re “decent at calc” then you should have learned all the level 2 topics. Take Math 2.

Math 2 shows a higher level of achievement.

Take Mathematics Level II. The curve is more lenient (as you mentioned), it’s pretty well-suited to advanced math students, and it’s more valuable to colleges.

Your 46 would translate to an 800 in Math II, and your 47 would translate to a 750 in Math I (approximately). That should be enough to justify taking Math II.
