Math 20c teachers

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know anything about Szypowski or Paparoditis for Math20c? I think Paparoditis is new, but Szypowski is teaching this quarter. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about him.

I was doing some research. Except for Li Bo, how has horrible ratings. Rayan just got his Ph D. from UCSD last year. However, he's lectured and TAed at UCSD before. Efstathios taught at the university of Cyprus before coming here. He might just be a guest lecturer. You can google both their names and find all this info. However, it would be very nice for one of the members on CC to relate their experience if possible.

I think I might've taken the most different amount of math professors in CC

...and I don't know anything about either off-hand

If' you're moving on to the other Math20 classes, I would personally wait for a more recognized faculty member to teach it (Eggers/Hall); if you want an easy A, take it with Takeda.

In my mind, there is no easy A if not everyone can get an A. Personally, I think its kind of good to take the "bad" professors since all everyone else does is sit back and complain about them, help the curve, while you actually put in effort and nab the A.

Shuichiro Takeda allowed us one full 8.5"x11" cheat sheet, 2-sided.

I think like 50% of the class got at least a B+--very uncommon for any of the 20 series classes

<a href="http://www.cape.ucsd.edu/scripts/detailedStats.asp?SectionId=578436%5B/url%5D">http://www.cape.ucsd.edu/scripts/detailedStats.asp?SectionId=578436</a></p>

50% expected an A, 46% expected a B

I remember the final kicked the curve down a few notches, but most people still did well

So no one here has Szypowski this quarter?

I had Szypowski last quarter. He goes by Ryan though since he probably is still getting used to being a phd and his last name is harder to say. He's technically a guest lecturer, because he graduated with his math phd last summer (from here), but he didn't have time to apply for faculty positions so the department did him a favor and let him stay if he teaches a few courses each quarter. If you are curious as to how I know this, I asked him, lol. I would definitely recommend him. He spoke so that everyone could hear him, he was clear, he did a nice mix of lecturing about theory and problem solving. There weren't really any surprises on the exams, he explained things very well, and would gladly stay after to answer any questions. In choosing a prof, you could do a whole lot worse and not a lot better.

hmm, sounds like a really cool prof. thanks for the info mathtastic_nerd.

I am kinda curious about why paparoditis is filling up a lot more quickly than Szypowski is though.. probably just cause he has a better time?

Yeah it's definitely for the better time. Finishing classes at 5pm can be hectic... personally went with Bo Li.

I heard Bo Li makes you do proofs on the midterms :/ havent done that since geometry..

Proofs in the 20 series are extremely easy

You either only prove by induction (=>, =>, =>, =>) or by contradiction (one counterexample to given theorem). Most of the time, you can find the proof verbatim in the book.

Take Bo Li. He's pretty good, I hear.

Yeah. Nothing Bad about Bo Li I assume. Don't even listen to most of the reviews since the ppl that give the bad reviews got owned in the class so all they can do is rant about how much the professor sucks... >_>

...bumppp (:

Well, I was going to take him last quarter, but after sitting in a few lectures, I couldn't stand it. He was pretty hard to understand both because of his accent, and his teaching method.
