Math 21B OR Chem 2A

<p>I would like to take BOTH Math 21B and Chem 2A for winter quarter. After registering pass 1, I am registered for Chem 2A, but the available sections of Math 21B conflict with my section of Chem 2A, so I’m not registered for Math 21B. There are no other open sections of Chem 2A.</p>

<p>It seems to me I have 2 choices:

  1. Hold what I’ve got and hope a section of math 21B opens up either via waitlist, or a new section opening.</p>

<li> Drop Chem 2A now, add an available section of Math 21B, and hope a section of Chem 2A opens up either via waitlist, or a new section opening.</li>
</ol>

<p>Anybody see any higher probability of success in one over the other? Any other ideas? Thanks.</p>

<p>I would keep your chem class and waitlist for the 21B. Also, keep checking both
classes over the break - early every day because last year I know that they
opened up more chem sections (there were about 50 people waitlisting by
that point). The new sections filled up by the afternoon.
Also, when you do your waitlisting, make sure you waitlist for a section
where you are high on the waitlist. I saw some sections with 2 on the waitlist
and others with 19. (when you try to add the class during/after pass 2, it
will say it is full and tell you at that point how many are already on the
waitlist). You can type in all the sections that fit your schedule at one
time and then pick which one to get on.</p>

<p>I had heard that more sections of chem 2a were opened during pass 2 last year. Wouldn’t that argue for my option #2, rather than my option #1, which you have backed? </p>

<p>The question comes down to this — is it more likely that there will be future winter openings in chem or in math?</p>

<p>I don’t know which one would be easier to add. If you have the chem teacher you want, I would keep it. If you don’t care about the teacher, then go for it. I was basing my recommendation on chem for sure and waitlist mat would be better than waitlisting both. But if there is already openings for mat, then that wouldn’t be the case.</p>

<p>Here’s the word from my two Engineering majors currently attending… one Freshman and one Sophomore… </p>

<p>If you are in Chem 2A… you would be a fool to drop it. Also, priority is given to Fresh and Soph for Chem 2A.</p>

<p>Calculus 21B can be taken waaaay more often then hem</p>

<p>Thanks all. After 2 weeks of hoping for a break, a different section of chem 2a opened up. I quickly traded for it, and registered for Math 21B too. So now I’ve got both. I feel lucky today. I think I’ll buy a lottery ticket.</p>
