I'm waitlisted for Mason's Chem 20B class. It's 1/1. The other professor is Neuhauser and he has homework due by the end of this week. When should I give up trying to get into Mason's class? What are the chances of me getting into the class? What should I do? If possible, I definitely want to avoid taking Neuhauser.

I was on that waitlist about a month ago and got in after someone dropped, but that conflicted with a different class. So, when another opening was available I switched discussions and now another person dropped and I just got in. So I am sure people are going to drop. And I believe they will even let all of the people on the waitlist in and over enroll (as they do for most chem classes except for labs).

i’ve asked mason regarding this matter but he said he is not going to let anyone in anymore. he even tried asking the department to open a new section but was denied.

Check your enrollment status now. The chem department I believe added everyone into the class because it is 27/26 people in each discussion now.

do you think ppl who are not on waitlist still have a shot for mason?

It is probably really slim and if it did happen, it would most likely not happen for a few more weeks. 2 people would have to drop from the same discussion and you would have to be the first one to enroll. And, that may be in week 3 or 4 and I am not sure if you want to keep attending lectures when you are not sure if you will get in. Plus turning in homework may be difficult because they don’t have anywhere to record your scores since you aren’t enrolled.

yeah turns out they let everyone in on the waitlist
