Math 31B Midterms

So I've been looking through some past exams for Math 31B, and most of them seem to just have 5 questions, each worth about 10pts. Is that how most of them are formatted? In general, how hard are the midterms/finals for this class?

And does anyone here have/had Rothschild?

Math midterms usually have 3-5 problems. I have seen one with 7 or 8 though. Again, most are related to the homework or concepts discussed in class, if the professor is considered "normal".

Ok that's definitely reassuring. I thought most profs throw in completely random stuff during midterms.

I don't know about Rothschild, but I am sure someone on CC has taken him. Sometimes, there are indirect proofs, but they should be short (probably a few lines) and not too difficult.

Usually, those are the questions that make the difference between the mean and higher grade.

Midterm for Jenkins was ridiculously easy(because he's a good teacher, not because the test was easy). 50 people got above a 90.

If anyone is taking math 31b with jenkins this fall 07 quarter, let me know.

i want to have a study group.

Yeah my math teacher's midterm had 8 problems on it and I think half of those were multi part for 31b. The class average was around 70% it was a beast of a midterm.

yeah jenkins midterm was pretty easy... I feel his next midterm is going to be ridiculously difficult though.

He's a good teacher though. 5 questions seems about fair in a 50 minute time frame.

Sweet! Got a 91 on Kucherenko's midterm. My roommate go an 85 and my neighbor got a 98.

i have rothschild right nowww

A way to do well in Kucherenko's class is to do every single homework problem in the book (or at least try to work them out). Similar tricky questions rotated in x<90<360 degrees will end up on tests .

marian,

Who's your ta?

Damn it, I really screwed up Kucherenko's midterm. Math is usually my thing but I did quite bad. I don't know if I can pull it all around.

What did you get?

48 percent
