Math and Social Science Major

A lot of colleges offer majors that combine Mathematics with Social Sciences nowadays. I'm particularly interested in a combination of Maths and Economics. When I called Tufts they told me to either double major or take Quantitative Economics.
My questions are

a) What's double majoring like? Is it extremely hard and time-consuming?

b) I don't want to end up in a blablabla economics major, so what's quant econ really like and how much does it have to do with Math?

I was accepted to a great program at Northwestern called Mathematical Methods in Social Sciences but really want to go to Tufts. Anybody with experience, please help!

I don't really know much on the subject but it sounds like you're looking for anything at all. Basically, I'm a double major (international relations and Spanish), and it seems to me that a lot of people are double majors too. It won't be too hard for me because I came in with a lot of credits from APs so I don't hafta take any sciences or math for instance. But since a lot of other people do it too, it must not be that hard.....right?
