Hey, I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas about the differences between the math and chemistry departments at UCSC and UC Davis? I'm a junior transfer math major interested in a chemistry minor. Which one is "better" and why? How are the professors? Are they actually good teachers or are they more into their research and don't actually care about teaching? Is one school more competitive than the other (will the students try to one-up and get ahead of other students/use them for their own benefit)? How "easy" are the departments? I'm not a competitive guy, which is why I didn't even bother applying to Berkeley as I wouldn't be able to work with the cutthroat nature of the school. So I'm trying to figure out which would be a better fit for me UCSC or UCD?

Are you interested in agriculture? I’m interested in math/ economics double major. I was all set for Davis being my #1 choice based solely on its prestige. However, I really like UCSC’s program better. I like their electives and one thing I noticed about Davis is its heavy emphasis on ag. I mean, I know it is an agricultural school, but to graduate for Managerial Econ., I would have to take multiple agricultural classes of which I have no interest.

Anyways, I would choose SC (Well, I am choosing SC) because of their broader requirements. I would recommend looking up the required courses for both schools. When i did that, there was no question UCD was not for me. Good luck!
