I'm going into my senior year and planning on applying to CSUs. My freshman year I took advanced algebra 2 first semester and got a D. I switched to regular algebra 2 for 2nd semester and got a B. Is this considered failing for CSU and lower than a C? My average grade for the 2 semesters would be a C.

It looks to me like your B validates the first semester D. Here is the link. You will probably want to run this by your counselor. Look on the second page of the link:

Thanks, it looks like I should also be ok because I got a C both semesters in precalc/trig.

Might not be a bad idea to set an appointment with your local CSU just to be sure you are on track. Walk in with your transcript to date and see if they suggest any adjustments for your Sr year. All but Cal Poly SLO use the exact same admission formula. Validating with one will tell you what you need to know.

Ok thanks I’ll look into that. I’m planning on going to sdsu. I’ve taken project lead the way classes so I’m guaranteed admission to sdsu as long as I have at least a 3.0 and high enough SAT scores so I don’t need to take remedial classes. I’m just trying to check all the requirements so I don’t jeopardize admission.

I don’t know what a ‘project lead the way’ is but, SDSU is really selective. Few 3.0s are admitted, regardless of test scores. Even in the local admission area. According to their web site, their average admit had a 3.74 GPA and and an 1144 R+M SAT. If you live near by, make an appointment with an admissions counselor and review your stats. If you don’t - call admissions. They will tell you where you stand in a non-commital sort of way.

Please apply more broadly than that so you don’t get stuck.

Yeah I’m definitely applying to a few colleges. But project lead the way is basically a program where I’ve taken engineering classes either part of an academy of in a pathway (they also have a biomedical one) and for California sjsu and sdsu are the mentor colleges. I’ve been told from the start and talked to counselors and people from both colleges and I’m basically guaranteed admission with the numbers I ready mentioned. It really is a great program for anyone looking to go into engineering. I’ve set myself up quite nicely with it. So even though I may have a lower than average gpa I’m still going to get accepted as long as its above a 3.0 and my sat scores get me out of remedial classes.
