I am looking to take the Math II and the Chemistry Subject tests next year. My goal would be to get a 700 on Chemistry and a 750 on Math II.

Do you think AP Chemistry is needed to get a 700 on Chem, or is Honors Chemistry sufficient enough? If AP is needed, I would then consider not taking the Chemistry Subject Test.

Do you think Precalculus is needed in order to get a 750 on Math II? I only took Algebra II this past year and I will be taking Precalculus next year. So, I would only have some knowledge of Precalculus going into the SAT II. If you don't think it is possible, I would probably take Math I.

*Just to let you know I got a 760 on Math Section of the Regular SAT, so I am not bad at math.

I’m gonna say the higher math you are in, the more of the math on the test you’ll forget…

I just finished AP Calculus BC this year and i seriously forgot couple things that i learned from Alg 2, Pre-calc, etc…

i got a 750 on my SAT math but i screwed up hard on the SAT IIs… get barron’s and just study…

as long as you completed algebra 2… study and you’ll be fine

Thank you! My friends in AP Calculus were saying that, but I was just making sure. Thanks again.

and i would recommend taking AP Chem before taking the subject tests… or it may defer on what topics the class covers in your school

i haven’t taken ap chem nor the test but i’ve taken AP physics b in my school and it was needed to take the physics subject test

(if your trying to get a score somewhere around 500-650 then you won’t need AP, but if you want a high score, you’ll need it)

GOOD LUCK and don’t take MATH I… with a 750 on SAT math, you’re guaranteed at least a 750 without any preparation on LVL 1 subject test

@byahnoob, i am in multivariable calculus and i got an 800 no prep. l0l.

Anyone else have input on whether I need AP Chem for the Chemistry Subject Test?

PreCalculus helped a lot to me in MATH iIC such as asymptotes, limits, sigma notation, probability etc

But to be honest, MAth IIC is a JOKE

I did no reviews just finished my precal class, and got perfect on it

Dont stress over too much.,…

I have an 800 in the Math II and a 720 in the Chemistry. I just took precalc and AP Chem. To me math comes easy so I’m not sure how much I can say for that test. On chemistry however as long as you keep up in class and actually do the work, a 700 is within reach. You should get a prep book to aid you. The subject test prep book helps I’d say more than an AP one because AP goes more in depth than the subject test.

If you study I think you could do well on all of them. I got a 750 in the chem sat but I only took the honors class. I probably could have score even harder if I had more time to study. Just get the workbooks, cram through them, and take as many practice tests as you can. Also math is mainly mroe algebra stuff. If you’re strong in math, and you take a look at the topics that you haven’t covered for the test yet, I think you’ll do great.

I had only taken honors chemistry and I got a 610… However, I think with some more studying I could have gotten in the high 600’s… But a 750+ was out of reach for sure. My school is considered to have a very rigorous chemistry program FWIW.

^^ Don’t listen to this guy. I had a crappy chemistry course and I got a B+ the second semester. Then after school ended I studied for two weeks for maybe an hour a day, took a ****load of practice tests, and I felt like I knew almost everything about chem. Subject tests are only so hard and chemistry is a matter of memorization really. If you study hard, you can definitely get a high score.

Thanks for all the responses. SimplyBMW and UrAverageAzn thank you, I am going to take the Chemistry and Math II now. And BCH2014, I am not looking for a 750 on Chem, I am looking for a 700.
