I seen some posts recommending the TI-Nspire CAS Graphing Calculator (either version), while others recommend the TI-89 or the 84. I need some help making the decision for the test. I will have about 1 month to learn either of these calculators, but for some reason I feel that I will have an easier time adapting to the TI-89 over the TI-Nspire CAS. So for anyone who has (or will) take the test, which calculator do you recommend?

NSpire is a lot more like a computer than a calculator, but some find it difficult to use. I honestly am surprised it is allowed on Math I and Math II SAT, but it is.

If you currently have a graphing calculator that is allowed by the College Board, I would stick with that. And if you are taking the Math II test, I expect that you took a course last year that needed a graphing calculator. Take some practice tests with your current graphing calculator, and see how you do.

I’m not too familiar with the Nspire and unless you know how to use it really well it will hinder rather than help. The 89 will be able to solve things that the 84 will not but I feel that if you know your math it will not matter what calculator you use.

Thanks for the input @rhandco and @bananafreak2u. The only reason why I don’t want to get the TI-89 is because it isn’t allowed on the ACT (but then again I heard the ACT math is very rudimentary compared to the SAT Math).

The CAS calculator lets you solve equations easily. I would recommend that one.
