Which Graphing Calculator should I get for Math 2?

Hello,

I have been reading posts about graphing calculators for Math 2.

It seems that there are a couple good models: TI-89, Ti Nspire CAS, and the older TI 83/84.

Can you please recommend the best of the bunch specifically for SAT Math 2?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each model?

Thanks so much!

Any of those is fine - just use the one you’re familiar with.

The most important thing is that you’re familiar with it. If you’ve used any of those models in the past, definitely go for that one. You don’t even have to have a graphing calculator for the SAT - if you’re familiar with a good scientific calculator, it’s probably better that you just use that one, rather than trying to learn how to use a new graphing calculator.

I’m a little confused, I am using Barrons Math 2 guide and a lot of it dependent on use of Graphing calculator, I have never used a graphing calculator before and so I’m leaving out those questions for the time being and moving to the others.

I have been saving up and now I’m about to buy a graphing calculator. I’ll be appearing for the test in November. I plan on taking both my scientific calculator as well as the new graphing calculator, so that I can use the graphing calculator for the problems I need it for.

I’m not the fastest math test taker, and I think I need all the speed I can get, but I didn’t think for the SAT 2 it was just about speed, aren’t you kinda NEEDED to have a graphing calculator? doesn’t it help A LOT to have one? , I don’t meant the adding apps to it part, but just the “Ability to Plot a Graph” part.

help please.

A graphing calculator will definitely be helpful on quite a few problems, but it should be possible to do all questions without one. With that said, it can be much quicker to solve problems with a graphing calculator, so if you’re short on time, you definitely want to have one with you.

The only one I have experience with is the TI-Nspire and it is definitely an excellent graphing calculator. As with any advanced calculator, though, it can be hard to learn all the functions of it, so I recommend you get it (or whichever one you choose, they all seem to be suitable) as soon as possible if you’re taking the test next week.

Get the TI-84. The TI-83 softwear isn’t as good (can’t do logs w/ bases other than 10) and the Nspire and stuff are mad confusing if you havent used them

TI-84 is straightforward and it offers you everything you need to ace the test.

TI-89 is a very powerful calculator. It can help you in the long run if you start using it now, especially if you are gearing towards harder math and science classes in the future.

For the MathIIC exam, a TI-89 would be extra helpful. But if you’re limited on time, then I recommend getting an 84 because it’s a lot easier to use.

TI 89 is a good choice as it allows you to get though the test much more quickly; the extra time is very necessary.

why haven’t you used a graphing calculator before? Don’t your math classes require them??

Eh I use a TI 84+SE, and that’s all I’ve ever really used. Love it! My school rents out the 83, and I hate it because you can’t use the arrow keys to scroll up and down.

Yes I haven’t used a graphing Calculator, and I’m giving my SAT on 19th of November, because our date was delayed. I just learnt that they don’t actually sell TI calculators in Pakistan, all we have is Casio…the fx 9860g SD and similar ones. Does anyone know if those would be enough, or should I get the TI nspire CAS shipped, (only has around 17 days left, and it will take at least a week to get it shipped, but I am a quick learner and will only be learning the things I need for the questions that can get help from graphing calculators, since I’ll be using my scientific calculator for everything else since we are allowed both on the test, i’ll be taking both with me).
