Is it true that if you start the the physics 4/2 series at your cc, you must complete it while still at the cc before transferring?

Depends, if you are doing tag or igetc where your school guarantee acceptance based on GPA and completing igetc then you do not need to complete the physics series at your school, you only need to complete igetc. However if your school does not have a guarantee then you typically need to finish all major prep possible at your community college in order to be competitive with others that are transferring.

For example, UCSD requires igetc plus 3.5 gpa, so as long as you finish igetc you are fine, and the only advantage of taking the major prep at the CC is to save money and spend less time at the university.

actually, it also depends on if the physics series consists of classes that transfer on a one to one basis to the UC or if they are only transferable as an entire sequence. that information can be found on assist.org as well as if the particular UC requires or merely recommends the physics sequence before tranafer.

@Killmyentourage Thanks, man. Do you know the particular situtation on UCLA’s Applied math department? whether they’re strict about finishing physics or not? I know math isn’t impacted there.

I’m a girl. But anyway, my friend just got accepted as a math major to UCLA and I know he only had the first two of three physics classes. I can’t figure out if he applied to a different major and his backup was math but he had also finished all the math classes, IGETC, TAP, a year of bio, year genchem, only taken one semester of ochem and I believe he had about a 3.6 (but awesome extracurriculars).

UCLA only requires two physics classes, but some need three.

I got into ucla as a math major and I had only taken 1 Physics class (though it was the 2nd (out of 4) physics class as I convinced the department to let me skip). So idk if it’s super important.

^was math your intended major? what was your gpa?

Uh yes math was my intended major (like I said in first reply) and my gpa was ~3.6.

I got accepted to UCLA as a math major, but I didnt take any physics class, I took chem and anthropology to fulfill the science area, that’s it, you just need to follow the igetc pattern and you will be fine

ok thanks. 10 char…
