Hey I just got an email inviting me for this, and I was wondering if anybody is currently undertaking this.

I was wondering what it is like, and especially how difficult it is course load wide.
aka: is it worth trying to take?

No, the math merit track does not currently exist, so nobody here is exactly on it.

I am a first year that is finished with lower division math though and somewhat interested in the Scholars program. The main downside to it is that it’s somewhat limiting. If you’re taking all the classes needed to graduate with an MA, there isn’t a ton of room for electives. I would suggest going with the Merit track though to keep your options open.

(sorry for how incoherent that probably was)

Oh okay I didn’t know it was new. Thanks for the reply and you were plenty coherent! :P

My S also got the email for the two week math boot camp in the late summer. He wants to be a physics major though (do they have a boot camp?) When I asked the other day, he said he wasn’t even interested in doing math as a minor. He will have completed linear algebra and mv calc by the time he graduates HS.

For some reason the math department website is really causing problems for me right now, but I’m pretty sure the Math minor is only something like 4 classes if you’ve already finished lower division math. There’s also a poster on here that’s double majoring in Physics and Applied Math (and I believe is in the Math Scholars Program) so he might have some advice.

I got the email today. Is it actually any good? And exactly how selective are they with sending with these emails since they said that they noted my high level of math preparation.
