Math Placement Test and AP Exemption

Does anyone know how the Math Placement tests work if the student has an AP Exemption? I know they have to take the Math Placement regardless prior to Orientation but when they get their AP Results (sometime this month or next), does that trump the Math Placement test?

Thanks!

DS2 just finished orientation on Tuesday. The math placement test seemed like a hard rule. He had to have the score to take the corresponding class. Where his AP score will be used seemed to only boost his level. For example, he had the placement test score for Calc 1 but, because he took the AP BC Calc test, he was told to register for Calc 3. This is assuming his AP test score is passing when he receives it.
There is another math skills test on the second day of Calc 3, at which time his placement can be adjusted.
After speaking to his advisor about everything at length, DS2 decided to go with Calc 2.

@PokeyJoe- Thanks! I guess we will see what transpires at orientation end of month. I know it all has to do with their major too and what is required.

My daughter did the first orientation as well and has AP Cal AB and is awaiting the BC score. She had to take the math placement test however the score was not used since her AP Cal AB score was a 4 - she tested out of the math requirements – they make all incoming freshman take the math placement regardless of whether they need to or not. Side note for orientation – take towels - they provide thin, small towels which really dont work

Yes bring your own towels and blankets if you need it - it gets cold in those dorms and they provide thin blankets as well! (at least in my past experience)

@InsightFran‌ - I should have clarified, DS2 is an engineering major. I’m sure there are plenty of other majors that don’t need Calc 3.

It might be too late for you, but if you do not get the 80 on the CMPT and your AP scores are not in, the computer WILL NOT allow you to register for a calc II/III, etc, section. You will be placed in a “waiting for AP/IB scores” class and will have to finalize your schedule later in the month. Make sure to get that 80!!!
Ultimately, your credit WILL trump your CMPT, but it will not do so until it is in their system after collegeboard releases scores. I took it at a local college and am hoping that my transfer credit claim will make it so that I get to be placed in a class during my orientation because my transcript isn’t going to be processed by then. :s
