Math Placement Test?

I enrolled in the School of Engineering. I do not need to take the English placement test due to my SAT score, but the enrollment pathway says I still need to take the math placement test; however, I got a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam. Does that mean I can exempt the math placement as well? And how do I send my AP score to Rutgers to do so?

No. You cannot be exempt from taking the math placement test regardless of your AP score. The purpose of the test is to confirm that you are eligible to enroll in college calculus. Once you have taken the placement test (and received the minimum required score), you can request College Board to send your AP score to Rutgers. By the end of the summer, they will process your AP score and enroll you in calculus 2 for Fall 2012.

I’ve copied and pasted this response from an admissions counselor on Go Rutgers, the social network for admitted students:

English Test Exemption for: 600 or greater score on their Critical Reading SAT or a 30 or higher on the ACT English section or a 4 or 5 on the English Language and Composition or English Literature and Composition AP exam in junior year. Students receiving a 4 or 5 on the AP English Language and Composition or Literature exams will receive credit for 01:355:101 Expository Writing 101 (for SAS and SEBS, other schools may vary).

Math Test Exemption for: score of 4 or 5 on the Calc AB or Calc BC AP exam in junior year. There are no exemptions for the math test based on SAT or ACT scores. All other students must minimally complete the Math Level 1 and Level 2 exams on testing day. Students receiving a 4 or 5 on AP Calc AB receive credit for 01:640:135 Calculus I or 01:640:151 Calc I for Math/Physical Sciences. Students receiving a 4 or 5 on AP Calc BC receive credit for 01:640:136 Calculus II or 01:640:152 Calc II for Math/Physical Sciences (for SEBS and SAS, other schools may vary).
