i got a 75 on the math placement exam on the first try… should i retake it?

If you scroll to the bottom of this page, it appears that a 75 gives you maximum opportunity in terms of math course options. You should probably ask an adviser to be certain.

Take M119 even if you are qualified for M211, that is frequent advice you will hear

No need to retake it. The math placement test is only important if you score very low because the advisors will then recommend that you take an easier or intro math class to help those who struggle in the subject. Your score is plenty high and you will be able to choose whichever math class you prefer.
