Someone is saying they have already been offered a "math scholarship" for fall '10. I know I'm being lied to but just wanted to verify it - 1) admissions for '10 hasn't even opened yet, much less scholarships and 2) scholarships have names, not "math."

No clue but more than likely they are full of it because I’m pretty sure the Natural Sciences college doesn’t do scholarships.

It’s possible a club at UT has a program or there is an outside scholarship they’ve won, but I do not believe that UT’s natural sciecnes college offers a “math” scholarship.

I think scholarships in Natural Sciences are given per department. I remember receiving a scholarship from the Physics department before I switched majors.

kkwa - was your scholarship given out before you applied UT and a year before you graduated high school? Did it have a name or was it like is hey, here’s some money from the Physics dept? Math is my thing so how did you apply for it? I thought the only Natural Science one was the Dean’s?

This friend I helped make it through every math class is now ranked above me (stupid me) yet has June SAT scores of 18-something/2400. This person wasn’t interested in UT until this mysterious “math scholarship” popped up and now wants to be roommates. Correct me if I’m wrong, but fall 2010 scholarships aren’t announced until spring 2010, right? You can’t even apply for them before Aug. 1, right? I just want to know for sure I’m being lied to.

The only math scholarships I am aware of are for continuing students. And yes, they do have names. You can find a list of them somewhere in the actuarial section. There may be others as well, but I would assume all have names.

Also, to my knowledge, no scholarships are being given out since as you said, admissions isn’t even open yet.

Your friend’s story seems fishy to me too.
