For freshman year, I'm guaranteed $6000 (70% tuition) from geosciences. Does anybody else who applied for different departments receive any scholarships?

when and how did you find that out?

So far:
Top 10% Scholarship ($2,000 a year…brand new, recently announced)
Freshman tuition free (Valedictorian voucher…common knowledge)
NM Finalist: $3,000 a year or something (if I decide on UT and name it my 1st choice

I got that top 10% scholarship brochure thing in the mail…

you won it already??

dude, it’s automatic if you’re in the top 10 and go to UT.

oh…i didn’t read it close enough…

it also says you need to demonstrate financial aid…so I’m probably ineligible…dang ittt

I am in the Top 10%, so do I get 2k/yr automatically? and Have any non-nmf received any scholarship from UT?

Is this for Top 10% texas residents only? I got $3,000 a year from Cockrell + OOS tuition waiver.

I Hope UT, I read the letter and it said that it is also based on financial need. so

I’ve officially been chopped and screwed (T Pain)

Athenos, is your scholarship a merit based for OOS. My son has been accepted to McCombs, and he has stats very similar to yours.

1000 from engineering
Presumably 4000 freshman year and 3000 each year after that for National Merit Finalist.

azndude1, they sent me a letter in january and said i’d receive the scholarship if i chose to enroll, 6000$ for freshman year, and renewable + more based on my grades for the next 3 years
i guess since nobody actually applies for geoscience freshman year so they can give big scholarships to the kids that are worth it
had i done engineering i dont think i would’ve gotten that much money
lol tight
for freshman year i have a guaranteed 15K if i go to ut
6000 scholarship + 2000 top ten scholarship + 2000 graduating early + 5000 pell grant

Joseph,

What was the 6 thousand exactly for? I know they given a certain amount ever semester based on gpa, But I never got 6K straight up from the jackson school, or anything nearly close. Was it automatic or did you apply for something?

Is the NMF money guaranteed or selective?

guaranteed, at least for this year

I got the valedictorian voucher back in 1980. Since tuition was only $4 a credit hour, though, it didn’t amount to much!

I got a lot of pressure to go to schools like MIT, but I knew I had a great school to go to in my backyard. It was the right choice for me!

I remember those $4/credit hour days. sigh

I just called the UT Financial Services department and the counselor I talked to there said he has never heard of the “top 10%” $2k scholarship other than several people had called in to ask about it. He claims it’s something someone made up. Hookem 168, you seem to know something about this. Where did you get your info? My son is top 10% and Nat’l Merit Finalist, so he’ll get the $4k his freshman year for NMF, but the extra $2k would surely help if it’s for real. It kind of doesn’t make sense that everyone in top 10% would get it because the vast majority of students at UT are chosen from the top 10%. Anything you know about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

^ it was just made this year…and not everyone gets it, just people demonstrating financial need in the top 10%

Do you need to worry that the scholarships might not “stack”? - I worry that if a freshman is already getting $4000 they would say the $2000 is a part of that.
