So you know the math solutions guides that are sold for the math textbooks....Does anyone recommend it? Will it help with anyway in improving your grade or understanding the math material? They are kinda pricey. I just wanted some input...Feel free to add any tips for studying for math classes.

Buy it if it is available. Professors know when there is a solutions manual for the book the use, so they avoid problems the solutions manual has in many cases. I usually do some extra problems to prep for exams, and knowing the answers is helpful.

A friend of mine was able to pirate the answer keys for his math class. He used them only to make sure he was doing the problems in the right way. He always made sure he had the right answer in the end. This forced him to learn how to do all the questions. He ended up with an A. I had another friend who was able to learn the material the regular way, but he ended up with a lower homework grade by a few points and received an A-.

If you want to do additional exercises on your own and check the answer, go ahead and get the answer key. Otherwise it’s pretty much a waste of money because professors won’t usually assign problems whose answers are openly available to everyone. Answer keys usually skip a fair amount of problems. For example, they might contain the solution to the even-numbered problems only. That leaves the professor some unanswered problems to assign.

The TEs are probably in the tutoring centers.

They certainly help me get my HW done. :p

Depends what type of math class it is. If its calculus/diffe, you can probably get by on WolframAlpha, but if it’s for a proof-based class, it might help to have a solutions manual.

However, these manuals are only useful for helping build intuition. You don’t want to be dependent on it at all, because that will hurt a lot later on.

Calcchat is your friend.

Also, solutions manuals are usually available for free in the tutoring center or library to check out. No need to buy one.

Thanks everyone, appreciate it.
