Math transcripts question

Hey guys, so I’ll do the most abbreviated post possible.

Basically, I’m taking 2 math classes at LSU right now, but don’t have official transcripts from them and they aren’t marked anywhere on my high school transcript. I did list this stuff on my common app, but nothing’s official, you know?

I have contacted other schools, and they said thanks for contacting, and asked for my counselor to send confirmation of my enrollment in the courses.

For Harvard, I sent in this info basically through the portal, and got an e-mail that just said to upload materials through fileroom. Umm, okay? Should I have my counselor e-mail Harvard?

And you guys may be able to help with this too. Yale hasn’t responded at all. Should I just do the same, have my counselor e-mail?

This may come as a shock to you, but many students outright lie (or stretch the truth) on their applications hoping to better their chances. Harvard, in particular has been burned by this issue in the past (google Adam Wheeler). That’s why in a situation like yours, an admissions office wants the documentation from your guidance counselor and will not take a student at their word. So, I would have your guidance counselor fax every college on your list and provide them with information on the two LSU math classes which do not appear on your transcript.

@gibby

I agree. I’m going to have to figure out who I should have her send it to, though. And I don’t want to annoy them by seemingly ignoring their last response, even though I’m not entirely sure how it helps at all. It’s a risk I’ll have to take, though. I’ll definitely talk to her tomorrow about sending them. Hopefully it’s not too late.

@gibby

Actually, to be honest, I have no idea who I could get her to contact. They don’t make the admissions counselors by region known.

Do you think I should have her fill out this https://college.harvard.edu/contact-us ? It seems like it’s for students only, and that’s what I used in the first place only to get an unsatisfactory response.

Your guidance counselor SHOULD NOT email Harvard with this information, nor should they (or you) try to upload it to the portal.

Your GC should write a letter (with documentation) and FAX the information to Harvard Admissions (617-495-8821) with your legal name, Common Application number, date of birth, and high school at the top of the letter. The letter should be addressed to “Dear Officers of Admissions” and it will be placed in your file. Your GC should do the same for every college on your list.

@gibby
Thanks! I have had her do that for every college on my list, except for the stand-outs Harvard and Yale. If I may ask, why is e-mailing bad? She e-mailed everyone else.

I will do this, but it’s just going to be kind of awkward I think. Because she basically said the Harvard case was closed haha. And then I would have to explain that I got these instructions from the internet. That’ll be a conversation.

I receive over 100 emails a day to my personal account. I imagine Admissions receives hundreds more per day. Who knows if your GC’s email ended up in Harvard’s spam folder or “red flagged” by their firewall? Who knows when your GC’s email will actually be read? In addition, Harvard’s file room (fileroom@fas.harvard.edu) does not open attachments to emails. Did your GC send an attachment with their email? On the other hand, paper spewing out of a FAX machine demands immediate attention, otherwise pages start to pile up and fall to the floor. That’s why I recommend FAXing over emailing, as the contents are read and filed almost immediately. I would have your GC FAX Yale as well.

I’ll try to bring this suggestion up to her diplomatically then. Thank you!
