May 2012 SAT II - Literature - College Confidential

How did everyone do? I got an 800, didn’t really expect that

I got a 680 for this lit exam. Is that good in terms of how difficult sat ii lit is supposed to be?

I’m so disappointed, I got 700+ for my Barron’s practice tests… :frowning: the questions were just so iffy in this one!

What do you guys think?

I got a 740 and am absolutely appalled because all of my english teachers think i’m basically illiterate and don’t belong in honors english, lmao. that’s like amazing for me. but i still have 3 higher scores so i guess it doesn’t really matter

I got a 700…

Hugely, horribly, painfully disappointing.

I’m guessing that I grossly misinterpreted “Man,” and I probably freaked out more than I thought on the Hamlet-related passage. :(

@supersaian

what prep books did you used?

750!!

I wasn’t expecting that, since the curve is so tough. YES. I won’t have to retake it :)

750 as well! Consider how subjective English can be, I’ll take my score happily.

@rosaline- I didn’t use any prep books, I just kinda assumed that since it was like critical reading of the normal SAT I’d do well since that’s my strongest area. If you prep well for crit, you will do well in this one, I think

800 on CR, only 780 on lit. My excuse is that I was dogsick for this one :P

@LiamNeeson (woah, he uses CC? jklol) Most parts of it are the same, I think the only one that I noticed missing was the piano one.

800 Lit, 710 CR on my only SAT I. I had read the Kaplan test book beforehand, took two practice tests. That was a big help for terms and practice. I had read the Bradstreet poem and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern before though, so I knew what those were about.

I recommend always taking the entire time to check answers on the test to eliminate choices on questions you marked to answer later and re-reading others. For example, on the woman’s illness passage, I didn’t notice it was a NOT question and fixed my response.

I think a problem on the critical reading is overthinking things, which might just be the reverse for the lit test. For critical reading, do you just have to go for the most obvious answer, even if it seems like a trick?

Whoohooo! 800 on the Lit test and the Chem one  I was really surprised actually, because I was getting mid-700’s on practice tests.

@Gatz99: As far as CR goes (I got an 800), sometimes it’s not the most obvious answer, although what’s “obvious” is different for each person. However, it’ll most likely not be the most “extreme” answer; e.g. you should probably choose “dislike” over “hatred”

Yo. Right now I’m signed up for Math 2 but I don’t like my chances at the moment, so I’m thinking about Lit. How is the test time wise? For a moderate reader is there time to read every passage and answer every question?

@CSIHSIS I think it’s fairly reasonable. I had time to go back and check all of my answers. And there’s not much to study. I say go for it.
