MBA and BS at the same time - advised for med school?

I am currently on track to finish an MBA and a BS in biochem all at the same time. I was wondering whether or not this is advised for med school, cause in order to get the mba I have to do mba related internships over my summers (and therefore not medical ones). I have been volunteering in hospitals ever since my freshmen year and I have a lot of research experience. I am also planning on shadowing a physician sometime soon.

I'm confused cause I won't be able to do something medically related while doing the MBA internships (I might be able to volunteer at a local hospital at the same time though), therefore I'll look like I don't care about medicine...but I also know that med schools want well-rounded students.

bump…

I wouldn’t if you feel like the internships are going to be very time consuming. However, if you are considering taking a year off or if is something you are really passionate about, go for it.

they are just going to be over the summer and I don’t plan on taking a year off either. I guess the rest of the year, I can do medically related stuff to make up for it…

bump…

I would not worry about it. There is a need for docs who know business, and presumably your science is strong if you are getting a BS in biochem. If you have grades and MCATs in the med school range, then your background should be a plus. The only challenge will be getting the right letters of recommendation. It might be good to have one from a business type (but see what your premed advisors think), but you mainly need to be sure you got close enough to professors in biochem, other science, or medicine to get meaningful letters.

Thank you afan  that makes me feel a LOT better :D

Thanks to mmmcdowe too :)
