I will be a freshman at BU and I recently just purchased the MBTA semester pass which cost $281.00!!! I really regret doing this now because at the time I didn’t think about how much use I was going to get out of it. First semester, I highly doubt I’ll using it THAT much to get my money’s worth. Or will I? Will I really be needing this pass or did I completely waste my parents’ money =(

What kind of pass did you buy???? A monthly subway pass is $44. A regular subway fare from, say, Kenmore Square to downtown is $1.25. I doubt you'll use the pass that much unless you are living off-campus(not likely for a freshman)

Did you get the combo subway and bus pass? DS got the subway pass only and I don't believe it cost quite that much (but it was for 4 or 5 months...don't really remember). He felt it was well worth it, and he used it many times over....but just the T pass...not the bus!!

I cannot imagine that you can avoid using the T. It is convenient and just to go out to dinner using the T is nice. Once the weather gets worse you will be wondering why you thought this.

The best one to buy is the subway pass. It costs 150something dollars for the semester... you save a little money by buying it all at once instead of a month at a time. The combo pass probably includes buses and ferries or something that you'll probably never use. Unless you live on West, you won't NEED to use the T that much, but it is convenient to have.

I was thinking about getting the Tpass this year, but ultimately decided not to.

Walking is good. It keeps off the freshman 15.
