Student T Pass?

Which one would current students reccomend/is it worth it to purchase one? Do students generally venture into other city areas?

I only had one for 1 semester. I didn't use it that much. But then again, I'm also really cheap. I'll walk pretty far just to save money on the T. I've seen lots of people that will take the T 1 or 2 stops and use it all the time.

I would say that it's probably not worth it Freshman year. Most people only go out on the weekends, and you can get away paying $1.70 per ride with a CharlieCard, whereas you would be paying about $50/month for the semester pass. Later on it would probably be more useful if you move off campus or have jobs or internships in other parts of the city.

yeah I'm only a freshman and my major requires a decent amount of traveling around campus and off campus so the T pass definitely worked well for me. Just depends on whether or not you'll use it. Otherwise you're better off just paying fares. Um just some other things..more often than not you can ride for free by just getting on the above ground lines such as the green B line that runs down Comm. Ave. Also it's just way more convenient than always having to find fare money especially singles if you don't have them. And yeah once you have it you find yourself taking it very short distances just because you can. If I'm walking two blocks and I happen to see a T I'll just jump on no big deal

It all depends on where you live relative to where your classes are. I have to go down campus multiple times every day because I live far out west. So I love my T pass (though I usually take the bus instead of the T itself). I guess it can't hurt to get it once. If you feel like you don't need it, then dont get it again.

^What do you mean by you take the bus, is this a BU bus or an MBTA bus? Thanks, helpful thread.

That would be the MBTA bus. This is covered by the student T pass.

Easy thing to do is get a Charlie Card and put some cash on it. Then if you find you need a T pass, you can get one 2nd term. Or if your parents are paying, try one and see if you use it enough.

i would suggest getting a pass for the first semester and seeing if it is worth it. its definitely helpful to be able to run to the t if you see it coming and not have to worry about if you have money on your card or not... also if you really like exploring boston it might be a good thing to have

I think it's somethin like if you use it twice a day, then it pays for itself. So yeah figure out how your schedule will be.

Is there a difference between a T Pass and a CharlieCard?

Yes, a pass is a pass valid for each calendar month while a Charlie Card is a renewable ticket in the form of a card which you can load with cash at machines in the T stations.

DS had a T Pass until the Charlie Card came out. After that, he found that getting the Charlie and loading it up was better. If you have a Charlie Card, you still get a price break...but you're only paying for the rides you use, not a monthly rate. DS used the T a LOT (had a job that required the T). He found that he saved money by using the Charlie Card vs the T Pass.

I love the T pass....in 2 weeks I get my $59's worth
