MC discussion

when can we start talking about annswers for tough mc questons, I waqnt to see if i got them right?

the art article was murderous!!

i think all agree on this on the first passage that was like, “The author regards reading as…”?
A-something about vital revelations

any other ones?

If anyone wants to post the questions I can probably remember what I put… But I’m totally drawing a blank right now! Do you remember what other choices were there for the vital revelations question by any chance?

The article on art was pretty difficult. I kept changing my answer for 42 and 43. And the glare on the clock had me looking at the hour hand the entire time and I had 12 minutes for the last passage- good thing it was an easy read!

So here are some of the questions / answer choices. What did you guys get?

1.) The tone of the passage is: vindictive, provocative, reflective, cynical…
2.) What is the value of reading: it connects different cultures, it allows for vital revelations…
3.) How does the author develop the passage: goes from concrete to abstract, gets more explicit as the passage progresses, goes from vague to specific…
4.) Lines 7-10 (But there are some patches of uncorrupted land in Eastern Europe) are an example of: simile, metaphor, justification, supporting example…
5.) The point of the art essay is: Contrast classic and contemporary artistic ideals, evaluate an artistic movement…

My Answers: Provocative, Vital revelations, Gets more explicit as passage develops, justification, evaluate an artistic movement

Any other questions and answers you guys remember?

4 I put it was an allusion because it alluded to the Art for Art’s sake that was coming in the next paragraph.

PSAT321: I got all the answers that you did, except for #3. I put “stated explicitly at the beginning of the passage” since it was talking about the thesis and I thought the author made it pretty clear what he was going to be writing about with that strongly worded intro. I could be wrong though, this was actually one of the two questions that I was pouring over in the last few mins.

Provocative

Was there something about like preserving intellectual something or other? I think I was between that choice and the vital revelations one…

Gets more explicit

I actually don’t remember this question at all…

Evaluate artistic movement

If any of you guys remember any other questions or answers, please post them. We could attempt to create a definitive list.

I remembered a couple more.

6.) The authors rhetorical questions imply that: the answer is already apparent, it requires further scientific observation…
7.) The artist whose name started with a G would most likely agree with: Joyce…
8.) Spheres most likely means: roles…
9.) The feminist author is: determined

I put answers already apparent, Joyce, roles, and determined.

was it inverted syntax or extended metaphor

Extended metaphor
Person = book

how is it provocative??? or vital revelations? there was no evidence for either of those

It was inverted syntax. There was only 2 examples Of extended metaphors, but inverted syntax was used throughout

i got extended metaphor as well. definitely wasn’t inverted syntax

But anyway, I got…

  1. reflective (she didn’t seem to be provoking a response, just reflective about her thoughts. she wasn’t calling anyone out)
2)i put solace and strength because that was evidenced in the passage with the concentration camp
    3)gets more explicit
4)i remember putting something like it was a contradiction to the previous sentence. the first one was like ‘artists wanted respect,’ and the second one was like ‘there were other places where they had respect’ so that’s not justification, more of a slight contradiction
    5)evaluate artistic movement
6)im pretty sure i put that it’s already apparent
    7)joyce… whatever D was
    8)roles (yay APUSH!)
    9)determined

I put inverted syntax too :-/

Oh, I put extended metaphor. I think I put almost all the same answers as diddly123.

On the whole, the mc questions were a lot easier than what I’m used to because my teacher usually gives us insanely hard passages, with me usually pressed for time guessing the last 20 questions in the last 60 seconds. But this time I was surprised that the passages weren’t too hard to read and I finished everything on time and didn’t have to randomly guess anything. I do know, however, that I messed up on a few questions. :(

YAY QTPIGINGER  btw did you put provocative or reflective? that question is seriously annoying me now and i didn’t know what do to on the test but reflective seemed more appropriate. but it’s okay, you can never expect to get every question right, and neither does the collegeboard :)

In response to diddly123

1.) The question whose choices were reflective and provoking was the art passage. They asked what the quote by Goethe was. Just by the phrase “dumb fool”, it can be seen how it was provocative. He states a controversial viewpoint, saying that beauty goes hand-in-hand with uselessness.
2.) Your answer would be correct for that one passage, but I highly doubt it would accurately represent the piece as a whole. Can you recall any examples of solace or strength outside that one example? I can’t.
3.) Agree.
4.) I spent A LOT of time on this one question as all the choices seemed to make no sense. If contradiction was on there, then I would have definitely chosen it. From my understanding, it wasn’t even an option, but I could be wrong. Any one else’s thoughts?
5.) Agree.
6.) Agree.
7.) Agree.
8.) Agree.
9.) Agree.

Also, I remember another question. One asked what the purpose of reading was and the only answer choice I can remember is one about boredom.

@psat i see where you’re coming from for 1. i’m starting to regret my answer :(. and 4 im fairly sure that something like contradiction was there because i put it lol. and for 2, the teacher gave the example of solace immediately after he mentioned how books will keep you company or whatever, but nothing about the teacher was mentioned much in the rest of the passage. i thought he was giving the example of the concentration camp to prove his certain points. idk though. i had an awful teacher and didn’t learn anything all year lawl. oops xD
